BTW, I should qualify that a parent has to work within their own income limits. I don't think you have to or should put yourself into debt just so your kids have the latest and greatest. My son has plenty of stuff that I bought on Ebay or from Craigslist or wherever. He has what I can COMFORTABLY afford to buy him but there are certain things beyond my reach sometimes. He gets that. Yep, I agree with you. I also know a few who over spend out of guilt, trying to make up for not being there. I think if ya have good kids they should absolutely be able to have the cool stuff they want, within the budget. I have 3 boys from 25-15 and I hear them... there is nothing more entertaining than a room full of teenage boys when your on the other side of the wall listening and they don't know.

We had an issue with texting a few months ago, but it's been resolved to my satisfaction. So, I think he deserves it. He's gonna have a better phone than me though

My son has every electronic gadget he asked for. Of course it all has come out of his allowance except for the PS2 which I bought for myself.He only started playing on it a couple years ago when his friend got an Xbox and he realized the PS2 had cooler games.

No one says you have to give them EVERYTHING they ask for. My son gets everything he NEEDS first, stuff he WANTS comes 2nd. He knows the difference. We as adults indulge ourselves. A little indulgence never hurt anyone. |

My boys don't have tvs in their room, nor do they have Ipods or any of the other tech stuff most kids have. I think they should have to earn it. As in extra chors, etc. I've asked my 10 yr old, Tyler what he'd like for his bday an he told me a PS2. I'll gladly get it for him cause it's his bday an he asked for it. However, it'll be hooked up to the tv in the livin room so I can maintain control of how much he plays on it. As for internet access. I let Tyler get on the computer but it's in the livin room an I'm in the room payin attention to what he's doin. He's allowed 30 minutes a day as long as homework is done an his room is clean. I take away computer time for punishment.  Sounds very reasonable to me. I don't allow the internet right now, as I have only the one computer and am trying to start to work from home. I have tried the ps2 (lasst years birthday or christmas gift) in the living room like you said, but both boys would sneak out at night or early in the morning to play it, so that ended up leaving. |

When raising my daughter, she got most things she asked for, but had to work for them, be it with extra chores, volunteering, etc.

My son (who is 11 this week) has his own cell phone to reach me when I am in another state, and hes with his father, its also been very beneficial in safety. My son can call me whenever he needs if hes out with friends, and is having a problem, or if he wants to vchill for longer, or if hes running late, or anything he needs.
I find it awesome, and convienent. He also has every video game system possible, and his own laptop. RC airplanes.. My son has his own job delievering chinese food. He buys himself breakfast from his favorite corner store in the morning if he craves it, or basicly what he chooses. I have a reward system, and if he shows good behavior he can be free, if not, we suspend his luxuries until hes back on the path of doing what he should. He gets bonuses often from his Dad, and I. And thats how we roll. |

Didn't have a whole hell of a lot of range....

His Dad got it for him out of competition because I was going to get him a iphone for Christmas. My cell has that neat picture taking option, and thats all the extras. Ive always done without so my son can have the nice things. |

when I was a kid we were so poor the only toy I had was a stick it came in two colors. oak and pine consider your self lucky it was not a thin hickory one  No more like lucky it wasn't 3 willow switches braided together. Them things sting like the dickens!!
