Bank wants thumbprint from man with no hands

Most banks require a thumbprint to cash a check from someone who doesn't have an account. Nothing new here.

But what about a man with no hands?

See, Steve Valdez was born without arms and wears prosthetic devices.

So he was shocked when told he had to put his thumbprint on a check written on his wife's Bank of America check -- with the same address he has on his driver's license.

He even had two forms of identification, both with pictures

But the Tampa bank wouldn't budge from its thumbprint policy.

When Valdez told the bank manager giving a thumbprint would be impossible, she suggested he either bring in his wife or open an account.

Valdez says that's not the way the bank would treat someone without prosthetic arms, and he refused.

Valdez says he asked the bank if it had ever heard of the American with Disabilities Act. He says that they told him they were accommodating him by offering the choices, reports 10Connects.com.

A Bank of America spokesperson later said that the bank should have made accommodations.

Yeah, DUH.

Wow, sometimes I truly wonder if people have lost the ability to make concessions, use logic or good old common sense.

So many other ways to go about this, contact management and/or account holder, not a big to do. Good thing I don't bank with Bank of America. slaphead

I live in a town of 2000 people. I have banked at the same bank about 35 years. When I cash unemployment check, I have to show a picture ID? Geez do they think I changed who I am?frustrated

That can be frustrating, but imagine being required to give a fingerprint when one is clearly missing their arms. slaphead

What's really scary is that I'm not even surprised to read things like this anymore.

Banks Schmanks.....that's why I am a member of my local Credit Union. drinker

exactly

I have a Bank of America account for paying some bills online

but there isn't a Bank of America ATM within 40 miles of me. And they charge $2 every time I take money out. So I take it all out at once and move it to the credit union

I just discovered they also charge $2 every time I inquire of my balance.

AND the convenience store charges an extra $2 every time I use the ATM card there. Even if I'm just buying gas and swiping the card at the pump

I'm going back to cash
