"...had a masectomy due to cancer recently...would you totally freak out if you went there with a woman and found she had only 1 boob."

First off, that must be traumatic, and I can only imagine what you had to deal with.

But as for dating, I think it can be treated as any other surgery. If you have any surgery, for any reason, and it leaves you looking very different from everyone else, then why not look for common, safe procedures to correct the results of the surgery? My understanding is that a great many women who underwent this procedure get a breast implant, and the result usually looks great.

For me, this wouldn't matter. I don't care if a woman I am dating has one (or two) breast implants.

It merely is important to me that she has breasts - I like women to look like women, just like women like men to look like men.

Robert

(Would you totally freak out if you went there with a woman and found she had only 1 boob?)

-As long as she told me and didn't make me find out while we were just about to make love,,,then I wouldn't have any problem at all with it..

When I was a teenager I dated a beautiful woman for two years that only had one hand..

It never bothered me at all... She was drop dead gorgeous but just happened to have one hand... I didn't feel bad about it either that she only had one hand... She could write with her other hand in cursive backwards better then I could forward... ha! -no kidding!

when i was 19 i dated a guy who was deaf. holy god he was hot. and a fantastic musician. he lost his hearing a few years before and now listened to music by the thump of the bass. i absolutely loved being with him.

wow...

i wonder what would have happened if he hadn't moved away.

I have actually quit dating because of this, and its really wierd for me to not be out there looking for my other half. I was just afraid I might give someone a heart attack...

You know like opening up "Cracker Jacks" and getting the wrong prize.

I have other personal issues that are difficult to tell a new potential lover. What I know is that if he can't handle it then he is not the right man for me. Kinda makes the elimination process a bit easier. Funny thing is - they are all ok with my stuff! Go figure, guess a lot of us have physical baggage and mature men/women don't judge based on it.

Long live you and your healthy self!!!!

After years of dealing with the responses of people to a less than visable difference I have found that if you force the telling it makes you come off as a flag waveing advocate/neuraotic or both that most people can't wait to get away from fast enough.

Wearing a small lapel pin on my my cap or purse it was usually noticed by people who were trying to get to know me. When they would comment about it, usually later than sooner I would smile and ask them what their three questions were of the great Karnac. Keeping answers short and specific to the question. Now days most conditions can be researched on line so it is really more about addressing how it affect them.

Being educated and thinking it through before I get caught off guard helped have a more acceptable upbeat answer. What Doctors and most social workers are clueless about usually support groups can give you practical experience with humor and acceptance.

Most often in good personal relationships the desire to not hurt me as a partner physically or mentally and not likeing the feeling of helplessness have been central. Coping with that things are pretty normal.
