While I think this was a terrible crime I don't know if I would say it is worse than some of the crimes that have been done against multiple children. This crime would have been forgotten if one a celebrity had not been involved or Manson wasn't such a media whore.

Well it also included a coffee heiress. And the fact that one was VERY pregnant probably had something to do with it. Plus the fact it was so random had everyone scared to death.

More than one. An actress, an actor, a coffee heiress, and a hairdresser to celebrities.

One of the many heinous crime committed the only difference with this one is that it involves celebrities and that the one behind it used a famous Group as a scapegoat, this is why we are still talking about it.

All crimes are to be remembered.

RIP to all victims of heinous crime.

I don't think it has anything to do with celebrities being involved. I think it's more of the heinous nature. I mean, the people involved in Columbine or Va Tech were not celebrity, but we talk about those also. JMHO

The reason the crime is so infamous is because it was the end of the hippie dream,if there ever was a dream. be seeing you

I agree partially, but unless you were a close relative or friend of the victims in those places do you remember their name, who they were, some will but the vast majority will remember the crime more than who were the victims. (not meaning you do not feel for the victims)

It's like that Chapman fellow (I think) who killed John Lennon if he had killed in the same manner a person unknown to the public eye do you think people would even know who he is.

Mark David Chapman was his name. No, I was only 6 when these crimes happened but I have read about them like most of us. I'm afraid I don't really see why the people involved being famous or not has much to do with anything. If it was Joe Public and his wife who were butchered up like this, I'd still feel it was heinous.

An heinous crime is an heinous crime, the point I'm trying to make is that if Charles Manson would have done the exact same thing to regular people it would still be an heinous crime but the only difference is that we would not be talking about it 40 years later.

Americans could not handle the fact that 'harmless' flower children could be cold-blooded killers. !969 was also the year of Altamont. The days of peace and love were at an end. be seeing you

Who ever heard of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca before they were murdered the following night? Nobody outside of their immediate contacts or families. What about Gary Hinman? Or Bernard Crowe? They're still remembered as victims, although they were little more else in the history books. They weren't celebrities.

Yeah..that's why it's referred to as the Tate/LaBianca killings. What a way to be remembered in the history books, huh.

The last resident of that house before they tore it down was Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails. He said he didn't know the history of the house when he moved in it, yet when he moved out he took the front doors with him. They are/were placed as the doors to his recording studio. Very odd.

Go Trent! Win!rofl rofl
