Topic: Needles at the Creek! | |
---|---|
Ok, I'm trying to figure if there is an appropriate agency to call or if I should just dispose of this stuff myself.
My daughter and her friend went down to the creek that's at the end of out street to look for crawdads and such. They have been down there before (last year) with me and we just tromp around in the dirty water and look for "cool" stuff. They came back today within just a short time and said that the creek is now littered with nasty things.......underwear, broken bottles, trash and NEEDLES! I asked what they meant by needles and they said "you know, the kind that diabetics use". So someone is using drugs down at the creek bed and throwing the needles on the rocks. Thank goodness the girls did not touch them, but I now need to figure out if I should call someone.....and who would I call? Our town has no local police dept......just the county sheriffs office. We do have a volunteer fire department. Any ideas on the best plan for keeping all the kids safe that play in the creek? Obviously my kids won't be going back. I would think I should call this to the attention of SOMEONE in authority somewhere, just not sure where. BTW....there is a sheriffs deputy that lives 2 houses down from the creek, so this is very surprising that people are using it as a party place. |

The Sheriff's department...they can come and get the needles and dispose of them, and you can show them where you found them.

One time,I found some needles laying by where kids get on the school bus and I called the cops and they didnt do anything but look at it and leave

It would be a rare occurrence around these back woods, but I know drugs that require needles are more prevalent now. I'm still sort of in shock that people are that stupid. I put a call in to a police type friend to see what would be the best route to take.

Not so surprising. Everyone knows that the best bank to rob would be one that's next to a Police Station. The cops are all somewhere else unless it's shift change. It would be unlikely that the users by the creek would actually know where that particular cop lives. |

It's a small town, people know. |

I called the sheriffs dept.........he's on his way. I have a red needle disposal from when my daughter had surgery and was on IV Antibiotics. I'll take that along so we can safely dispose of the needles. It's a damn shame that people are so reckless. This used to be a safe place for the neighborhood kids to tramp around in and have fun.

Ok, so we did our part by passing along the information. The sheriff that came tonight just happened to be the one that lives 2 doors down from the creek! Yay! Talk about coincidence. He is going now to dispose of them and will keep an eye out for the disgusting individuals who are doing it.

It is sad but seems like drugs are everywhere. With medical waste so expensive to handle it is getting more common that people dump it illegally. Give the kids a big HUG for being so grown up and reporting this important information. You must be very proud of them.

I found some needles in a wastecan outside of the restaurant I go to. My God, what if they were from the cook!!! I am scared to eat there now! And the cops didn't do anything here either. |

Sounds like you did get some satisfaction from your local law enforcement, Great! But if it turns out not to be enough (the problem recurs) try your local press!
Good luck ridding your area of this menace! |
