Some time ago my neighbors installed, and I'm not exaggerating at all here, about an eight bazillion watt security light over their back door. I mean even the moths are afraid of this thing. Astronauts from the space station are calling Huston complaining that they can't sleep at night because of it.
Now I live in a fairly urban area and the normal street and alley lighting is more than enough to navigate from your garage to your back door. And some folks do have the usual floods over their
doorways. But why on earth does somebody feel the need for lighting bright enough to read a book by from six blocks away?

But that's not even the weird part. Last night while I was out with the dog the neighbors were out in their yard enjoying a beverage and the beautiful summer evening. Of course not wanting to disturb their enjoyment of the night sky, the artificial sun was turned off. But when these two sun worshipers decided they needed to go into the house to refill their chardonnays, fruit beers, red bull and vodkas, or whatever it is the young and tattooed are drinking now, on goes the bazillion watter. And when they came back out off it went. WTF?

My question is this; What do I do before winter sets in and the over all reflectiveness of three feet of white snow and the lack of foliage turns my neighborhood into a version of the land of the midnight sun? Get out my over and under and keep knocking the thing out until they get the hint? Send them a signed letter from all of the sleep deprived astronauts? Calmly go over there and tell them that their electric meter is spinning so fast it has caught fire? Or ask them if they are trying to attract air line pilots?

All of the above. Make a game of it and see how creative you can get with the guesses as to why they need a Billion Candlepower yard light.

Other than that, go buy some black window shades.

Its a security light that stays on permanently?

Wtf are they trying to acheive? Do they want the burglar to be able to see what they are doing?

A security light should activate when there is movement to alert that something is there, or to allow light to a cctv camera so it picks up images.

My advice - Shoot them all
