I talked to my brother.

He said that they got 7" of rain in 2 hours. The hospital's basement flooded with sewer water. That's were the cafeteria is located. The water was making its way up the steps.

There was a gas leak in the hospital. It caused a fire. All of the patients were evacuated via ambulances.

The hospital is closed for a few days. They made everybody take mandatory vacation time.

He put trash bags on his legs to walk to his truck. The water was up his thighs. His 2005 truck is totaled. He still owes $8,000 on it. The engine is covered in mud, leaves and branches. Water was in the glove compartment.

His truck had windows that opened when a person gets stuck in a river. Well...the truck thought it was in a river and the windows went down and the truck filled up with water.

Needless to say, the truck wouldn't start and he had to get a ride home. He tried to get a Rent-A-Car, but they were all taken already.

He found his basement flooded when he got home. The sewer backed up. Boxes were floating. He has wood and tile floors there. He said that he had photos in some of the boxes. He's using the shop vac now. He said his house stinks. He has a $1,000 deductible sewer back-up coverage.

He sounds sooo tired. Heavy sigh.

They're supposed to be getting more rain tomorrow.

Mother Nature seems particularly cruel to Kentucky. What rain doesn't wash away is really beautiful. I am sure there is suffering all over the state not just Louisville. Will keep your brother and others in my prayers Winx.

I have often wondered what Sacramento would do because like New Orleans much of it is below sea level.

I would really rather see our young people in the military helping our own at home. In Kentucky 1 in 6 are serving. Must be very hard on them to be so far away and see their families suffering.

Thank you, PacificStar.flowerforyou

Yes, Kentucky has been having a rough time this year. I think it's pretty there too.

Winx I am Sorry to see so much frusteration. I am sure there are hundreds of emergency response teams already in route to help. The house can be cleaned and repaired and the truck will be replaced by insurance. Your brother is quite likely to find work in the clean up and end up coming through better than it may seem now.

I know the people of Kentucky are resillient. Those who care PLEASE help the Red Cross and other emergency relief systems. I am fairley sure the Kosairs Charities Center was swamped and thousands of profoundly hanidcapped children all across Kentucky depend on that facility to give them critical care.

I think he's going to lose with the truck. He still owes on it. He said something about blue book value and what he owes. They'll pay off what he owes and he may get $1,500 to $2,000 for it.

I'll ask him if he knows about Kosairs Charities Center. He's only lived there for a few years.

That's a lot of rain, last year as I recall the St.Louis area was hit pretty hard with rain and flooding.
I bet your brother will be OK in the end.

Thank, M.Michiganman.flowerforyou He'll be okay but he sounds down.

Yes, St. Louis was hit this year. We have our rivers.

Gosh girl, so sorry your brother and everyone else who lives there is going through this. I hope the rain stops soon and he can get things cleaned up and back to work. So frustrating and stressful for him and everyone.

When I lived in a small town in the NW corner of our state (it rained a lot) we had 8 inches of rain in about 6 hours, but the ground apparently handled it okay and the rivers rose but nothing severe like what they have. We had 150 inches of rain the last year I lived there. It is wet out there.

Winx, tell Mom not to worry about food. There will be emergency supplies being passed out probably as I write this.

Hopefully he can use the cash for clunkers program.

If you want you could be going through your pictures and make him duplicates of what you have will help with the loss be a nice Christmas present.

You might want to get together some care packages. Depending on what he has lost and what he needs. In a few days he will be able to tell you. You can ship stuff in by Greyhound Bus. A Home Depot gift card would be really useful with all the things he will need to prevent further damage.

If you are not too far to drive in what you collect have a "Flood of Love" party invite friends to bring pot luck and handme downs. Bedding, warm coats, boots, non perishable food, bottled water, urban camping equipment.
