`Ruin seize thee, ruthless king!
Confusion on thy banners wait,
Though fanned by Conquest's crimson wing
They mock the air with idle state.
Helm nor hauberk's twisted mail,
Nor even thy virtues, tyrant, shall avail
To save thy secret soul from nightly fears,
From Cambria's curse, from Cambria's tears!'
Such were the sounds, that o'er the crested pride
Of the first Edward scattered wild dismay,
As down the steep of Snowdon's shaggy side
He wound with toilsome march his long array.
Stout Gloucester stood aghast in speechless trance:
`To arms!' cried Mortimer, and couched his quivering lance.

THE BERSERKER, PAGE ONE......
year 1348....

Our boats creeped through the fog and mirror calm seas as we kept a look-out for land as the skulling paddle squeeked in it's hinge, scuttling us along through the crystal green water, so clear, one could see nine fathoms down. we must be close, for we are so shallow Dransk. Jenst said, as he worked the handle back and forth methodically, well keep a lookout. be vigilant! the dragon-head appeared and dissappeared through the fog like a wicked wraith with a mission, maybe to be the Jörmungandr trying to get a vacation from Loki's service, but held fast frozen in wood...in time.

The fog started becoming more translucent, then clear, with little wisps now and then, and the sun was clearing, and burning out the fog bank. There was a scorched smell in the air.....many things burning, cooking.....smelled strange, like sweetened meat and wood...hate sweet meat, yyyeeach! slowly the docks became visible through the fog, and i looked at Jenst, are we good, or what! big smiles on our faces...we were home! Nobody at the docks...strange, there's someone always fishing. we glided in, past the end of the pier and tied off on the port side, and got our supplies, and left the trade goods on the boat for now. We would unload them after we ate....we were hungry! our food had run out the previous day, so our stomachs were growling to say the least! we trudged up the massive steep hill to the village on the other side of the valley. The two boatmen, Nognyev, and Ruglanei, both Russian sailors, stayed with the boats, and started to stack things in the docks

The screams were deafening in the village far below in the fiords. They were being burned alive for fear of the spreading of the plague. The year was 1348, and It wasn't up here yet, but must have been carried by messenger from that boat two days hence from Scotland. Deafening! because they're my people. It wasn't loud, distant in fact, but everyone i knew, and everyone i loved was in that village. I was in charge of sailing supplies to other nordic towns, and trading from Trondheim to the Novgorod republic, through the Volga river. I had just come back and heard the news, and as i ran up the other side of the fiord, my tiller man stopped me from going in, for the soldiers were hunting on horse-back and on foot, and killing everyone, and throwing them in the fire, alive or dead, and they hadn't known that we were back yet. a lone figure...no! a baby on the back of the lone figure were climbing up the rock face.....oh Ymir!!!! Fraya!!! Ost!!!! i screamed...one soldier threw a large rock and hit Ost in the lower back and he screamed, but hung on with one hand...the drama was too much!!! he threw another rock and hit Fraya on the ankle, and she slipped, but hung on....then my baby fell!!! cartwheeling down, and hit the rocks below, and the soldier crushed his skull, flat, under-foot, while Fraya screamed, and another rock brought her down also, and she landed on her back with a broken scream or forced air from the impact...i was screaming!!!! ooaaarrrrwwwwrrraaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!! my rage was beyond posibility as i marched on, Jenst in tow.......Jenst was holding me back as best he could, but i was dragging him along to get at them until arrows started whizzing by from below.... We must go, Dransk! he said with complete urgency, as i froze, and part of me wished i was in that fire, and Jenst tugged me hard...Dransk! they are shooting arrows at us!!! i screamed again! you're ALL MINE!!! YOU CAN'T ESCAPE!!! AAAHHHHHH!!!! I'LL KILL YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!.......

Oh NO!!!!! the boats! they're burning the boats!!!! Just as we started down the mountain, columns of smoke began to writhe slowly upward from the tips of the trees, like tiny grass snakes at first, then thick, like kracken tenticles grasping for the sparkles of moonlight frosting the water below, and the sky was the soft blue, like on the domes on St.Sophia in Novgorod. A psuedo daytime of sorts. Worse, Jenst and i were out in the open! we ran like scared cats to the trees, but an arrow appeared to rip Jenst's nose off his face and replace it with it's own hidious sihlouette, as he went forward as if his mock caught in a root as he hit the dirt. the shaft and the arrow feather poked out of the grass like a grotesque flower in some nightmare, so surreal, but too real as a shaft pierced my hand and i skwealked like a wounded wolf smacked in the side, and the top of my body was passing the lower half and i thought i was going to fall, but i re-compensated, and i made the thickets! the black-berry bushes would stop the leg persuits to a fast walk speed, but i still kept thinking i was going to get an arrow in the back, but luck was on my side tonight, and with my fighting leathers and jerkin, i could still run!

i was getting scratched to hell, but i was getting a lead! i was going to live! The trees were next, and if i could just make it to the cliff, running full bore, half tripping and half running, it would put me out of harms way, if i could just make it!! for i could swim for the cave at night. in the day, the water was too clear, and i'd be seen. My hand felt like a mis-shapen pile of danish dough, and was swelling by the second, and it snagged several branches, but didn't snap. it just ripped the wound open toward the webbing between my middle finger and my fourth finger. my throat issued a caaaeuuu!!!! as i decided to grasp the shaft as i reached the cliff, i caterpulted, by punching my feet and getting clear of the rocks below, wow! this is reeaally high!... More arrows whizzed past me....i heard gasps as i leapt into space, and people saying he's dead now! don't bother.......ahhh my saving grace....I knew how to land. the greeks taught me to dive in the quarries, thank the powers that be!!! but never this high! maybe 8 fathoms at best, but i had a full 16 fathoms to fall yet!!!, so i swanned out, and wind spoke loudly in my ears as i curled in at the last minute. perfect! except for the pain!!!!!
Bbwwwoouuuoooommmmmm!!! was the sound i made screaming underwater from the pain in my hand, and was a sudden shock to my addled brain, and panicing because i needed that air to make it to the cave in stealth or they would see water racket. My lungs burned from the pain, but i got my bearings, after watching the bubbles rise. COLD! I swam for the dark abyss under the shoreline. My lungs were pulsating with pain as they contracted and expanded little with no fresh air to accomodate them. as i got closer, and under the roof, i came up. DUUUNT! my head hit the rocks, for i came up prematurely from the pain, and saw yellow-red stars for an instant, and shook it off.... I swam for the sloping rocks on the other side of the cave, and could hear the wavelets ripple and echo as i came through the cave dome. AAHHHHHGGGG!!! I stubbed my toe on a rock and it started to bleed, aahh ahh....i pulled myself up and layed out of the water away from sea predators......I WAS SAFE!!!! for the time being.....I pushed the arrow and feathers through my hand, and screamed!!!! then, i lay there in silence, and i started to think of my family, and Jenst, and i started to silently cry....... then drift off to sleep......

when i staggered awake, i was jolted by the pain in my hand as it had become swollen to twice it's size, i fought off the urge to mourn, for that was useless now, i had to get away from here, and it was mid-day. i had to wait for nightfall i opened up my wound again fresh to soak it in the salt water, and i could see through my hand still and i had to scream! Oden's to Loki this hurt!!! the water looked a peaceful green, as the light filtered in from the cavern opening. Jenst and i were the only ones that knew about the cave, for we found it by accident when jenst fell in one stormy day, and got washed under the rocks, and dissappeared, of-course i thought he was dead, but a bit later, he came out and told me about it. we had to explore it... there were many passages from the main opening, and some made eeerriieee noises!! we figured it was the wind, but the really dark one, where a torch wouldn't shine, we stayed away from. we brought supplies down there and kept them there for storage, and emergencies....and i still do to this day...

If you want to have a whole page to yourself in a Fantasy online magazine then follow the guidelines to make it happen.

1. Have a photo available on your photo display here on Mingle2.

2. Choose a fantasy creature for me to transform your picture into the creature.

3. Answer the questions to add to your personal page in the magazine issue.

4. Add me as a friend so I can find you quickly when a magazine issue is available for you to download.

What kind of magazine is this?

I am attempting to create a Free online medieval fantasy magazine/article that covers jokes, quotes, short stories, crossword puzzles, recipes, illustrations, helpful websites, author reviews, and fantasy dating contacts.

How long will it take to make a issue?

I want to make one issue per month. If I work on it a few hours each day, I should complete a interesting well designed free online fantasy magazine for people to download and enjoy.
I also wait this long for contributors who wish to add their fiction stories, illustrations, or other helpful links to make the magazine interesting.

When will I see my first illustration of myself created into a fantasy creature?

It depends on what creature you wish to be, but anywhere between 1 or 2 weeks tops. If you want an example of how a illustration looks like then check out my photo profile to see how other Mingler's allowed me to transform their photos into fantasy illustration.

How do I begin?

1. Choose a race and mention it here on the thread.

Dwarf
Human
High Elf
Wood Elf
Wild Elf
Amazonian
Centaur
Minotaur
Draconian
Halfling
Dark Elf (drow)
vampire
Zombie
gnome
pixie/fairy

to name a few. If you have another race idea then don't hesitate to add it.

I want to be a Unicorn

2. Answer the following question as they will be added below your fantasy picture.

Why do you like Fantasy or Fiction?
Because in Fantasy you can travel places you could not possibly go in the secular world and meet creatures you don't see every day.

What is your favorite Medieval "Swords and Sorcery" type movie?
Jason and the Argonauts

What is your favorite Fantasy novel?
Imaro - by Charles Saunders
http://www.swordandsorcery.org/int-saunders.asp
What is your favorite roleplaying computer game?
Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood

What is your month and day of birth? Needed to make a "fantasy horoscope reading" to add below your illustration.
November 24
What is your favorite holiday?

If you where to live in the 15th century in Europe, what would you like to be and explain why? For example - Lord, Princess, Alchemist, Knight, Advisor, Jester, farmer, Bishop, Assassin, etc. etc.

A Lady Knight so that I am always armed to defend myself and others

Where can a reader contact you? For example - Mingle2 screenname, or a yahoo account, etc. etc. ((You can send this email if you like)) Also only if you want to have anyone contact you.
MiamiQ

3. If you have something to contribute such as medieval websites, or websites of authors, fantasy rpg websites, fantasy mmporg websites, or your own personal fiction writing or artwork you wish to add into the magazine then don't hesitate to send it.

Just my favorite author Charles Saunders

Cheers and thanks for reading all that! lol
