Last summer, I had people from 5 countries at my home...there were some things that everyone seemed to connect on...and then things like...Rice Krispie bars were differences...

Sounds like y'all had fun!

If you never experience different cultures you are going to miss out on a whole host of different things in your life.

I befriended a black carribean family a few years back(although it was because they were running a pub i drank in!), and that was the first timem i REALLY got to know anyone of that culture. Very friendly and welcoming they were, i spent many occasions with then outside of the pub environment. One thing i did experience with them was Goat Curry. Goat wasnt something i had considered eating before, but it was bloody tasty! It was worth meeting these people just for that!

What different races and nationalities of people have you had the pleasure of being around throughout your life?

Note that i said 'pleasure'. This is not a thread to moan about or attack anyone. This is a thread to help eachother understand more about people with different cultures. It can be a touchy subject, so lets just keep it positive.

What are some good things you have learnt about(or from) these groups of people?

Asian...China,Korean,Malaysian.
Egyptians,Arabic,
This year.

Years past it has also been ,
Czech Republic ,Spain.
An some others.

They come to the United States to learn english,an also to see our country.

Having grown up in Germany, I went to school with lots of Turkish kids, as well as kids from Italy, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Croatia. I still e-mail back and forth with some of them.

We had great times back then...and one thing they all had in common were Moms that cooked the most awesome food and made sure you got lots to eat.

My friend "Pang", from Malaysia. He was working at a Chinese restaurant I frequented. Everybody loved him; he was always joyous, always cracking jokes.
He met and married a Southern Baptist white girl. They were very happy together. He graduated school with a masters in marketing. Sadly, as is so often the case, marriage often separates great friends. He moved to Cally, began working for Revlon, and that's the last I heard from him.
He wanted to quit smoking, so he just did it...just like that.
He seemed to be able to make changes so easily in his life. If he wanted to make a change, it was just done...amazing discipline.

Living in the San Francisco Bay Area has enabled me to experience many different types of people and influences from different cultures. I am lucky to live in such a culturally diverse area. My ex wife is Black. My ex gf before her was Mexican.

I have many Jewish friends (not Israeli, but Jewish heritage) also black friends, American Indians, as well as I've met Indian from India, hispanic, orientals, French, German, English, Australian, Canadian, Alaskan, Hawaiian and yes...even a few from Alabama! LMAO!!!

I really wish we ALL could and would work on making racism and treating others with indifference something that ceases to exist in our vocabulary! Man! That would be SO awesome! Don't think I'll see it in this lifetime, though. :(

Thanks again!

Now, hold on theah, liddle lady! I'm from 'Bama, 'an I knew I recognized you from some wheah!

Does it really matter where they are from when they are belly down...screaming into a pillow? It is kind of a universal language.

I've been privileged to have gone to school with, been friends with or have in my family, every single race you can imagine. Experiences haven't been pleasant or unpleasant along race lines but rather on an individual basis.

I was bought up in a London Borough which has the largest population of Jewish people in the UK. Although i am still yet to meet an Orthodox Jew who takes his religion very seriously. Most of the people i know are less about the religion and more about the culture. But they really are into their culture, family life and traditions. One of the best weddings i ever went to was a Jewish one, they really know how to party and can let their hair down when they allow themselves to.

I have seen little truth to the stereotype that Jewish people are tight-fisted. My experience has been that they are as generous as the next group of people.

As a Jewish girl

That was nice!
