I had a comic book(one of those magazine size ones)when I was a kid. In it kids(I think) were sitting around a campfire telling stories on who or what they thought Batman was. One story Batman was an actual bat creature. I wish I still had that.

see, the thing is man, that's how the comic is. Batman was more of an urban legend amung the criminals of gotham city early in Batman's career (when they reupped the series and did some updates so ppl weren't wondering why the hell Bruce Wayne isnt 80 years old). he would come out of nowhere, which is his M.O. as he was all about hiding in the shadows.

sure, Keaton did that in his version of the bat, but i always thought he made a better Bruce Wayne than he did he did the actual Batman.

Kal Kilmer's and Clooney's bat didnt do that at all, and was more 'flamboyant' with the role.

Bale's bat nailed it though (even though i do think his 'bat-voice' was a little too forced in Dark Knight). he struck from out of nowhere, taking his prey by surprise, only to melt back into the shadows, then striking from again in another location. they took the urban legend aspect of Batman and ran with it. just the signal in the sky alone was a deterant against some of the more minor crimes around Gotham (as shown in the beginning of Dark Knight).

I knew you'd find this. And I agree with you 110%, Bale did Batman how Batman should be done. He's dark, he's not a hero, he's unpredictable. (The raspy evil voice is a little much, but he's Welsh so I'll forgive him)

Keaton was...well good but not perfect. Clooney and Kilmer were fun to watch, but remember who directed those...

right on! there was an episode of the old Batman cartoon on Fox that had a group of kids telling stories about Batman that was kind of like that. it was one of my favorite episodes!

Maybe they were inspired by that. I'll probably find out that issue is worth a lot of money or something. I was in a bat-habit of trading things off back then.

I would have loved Dark Knight if they hadn't kept the f'd up Batmobile...I hate that damn SUV looking trash, entirely f'd the Batmobile up. Bale was a good Batman, as most were...except Clooney, I didn't really like Clooney as Batman. Keaton wasn't bad and did pull off a mean Bruce Wayne, but the Batman part lacked.

Actually, Bale is about the only one that nailed Batman as the vigilante that he is...not a hero, but not evil, an inbetween.

Now they just need to get rid of that damn ridiculous looking Batmobile.

I never liked the batmobile in the older movies. Too damned long. It just looked ridiculous. I did like the tank like bat mobile in the newer movies only as it was a homage to Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.
That story line (one of my favorite stories of the Batman universe) takes place in the future, where Bruce Wayne is in his late 60’s, and had long given up being Batman. His batmobile was literally a tank, which he said was his original ride, but had to modify it due to some nasty riots that had plagued Gotham.

And Fear. if you noticed in Dark Knight, they did get rid of the batmobile. It blew up after the chase scene with the Joker

I actually love the Tumbler in the new movies. It's wicked. I'd hate driving it because I'd feel like I was running people over all the time but I thought it looked wicked.

I never really liked any of the other ones, except for the really really old one. They were all kinda...flamboyant for me. I'd laugh if a dude in a bat costume hopped outta any of those.
