Topic: If insanity is defined as... | |

..."doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results,"
then... ...how do you account for, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again?" |

That's insane!

I smile, then it makes ppl wonder what is really going on
SSSHHH....we can't tell them, if we did we'd have to shoot them |

is it that if you dont ack like evryone else you are insane

If "he who hesitates is lost," then is it really wise to "look before
you leap"? |
Actually you have a point..because "normal" is defined as what is the
"norm" for a particular society's behavior. For instance, in some remote areas it's considered "normal" to be a cannibal. But just try ordering "people" at a restaurant here and see what happens. |

would that come with a side of flies? |

Try, Try again until we cross the unseen line leading to the point of no
return. It is believing in different results that we try, try again. I believe that Einstein said the quote "Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." as a thought provoking way to examine ones own limitations. At what pint to we draw the unseen line. |
to "try" is failure with honor
try, try in a different way!
to "try try again" is an attempt to achieve a goal. One may not use the
same methods each time he "trys" to reach that goal. It's trial by error. Insane is to do the exact same method each time expecting a different result, but always getting the same. |

You're standing at the free-throw line, trying to shoot a basket. You
shoot -- and miss -- say, 20 times in a row. On the 21st try, you make the basket. Granted, there are slight changes in the way you shoot but, in doing *anything*, nothing you do is EVER going to done in "exactly" the same manner. But basically, you're employing the same methods in order to make the basket. You stand, you aim, you shoot. Sometimes you make it, sometimes you don't. To do something over and over again and expect the same results might have been, in Einstein's mind, an "insane" thing to do, but it is certainly not the psychiatric profession's definition of "insanity." |

From my perspective... The difference lies in the path chosen in order
to achieve the goal... Should one choose the same methods over and over....then expect a different result...lol...that would be a little...um...nuts... However, should one fail, yet have the resolve(Bush has made me despise that term) or rather the perserverence and enough mental resource to be able to choose a more effective method...then try and try again...should the reward be worth the effort...{insert cheers} |

But each time you shoot for the basket and miss your next attempt will
be made with adjustments to your technique based on what went wrong the previous attempt. Until, eventually, the shot is made. So each time something different is being done to acheive the goal... trial and error. If you didn't make any adjustments based on what was learned from the previous attempt, and expected a different result, it could be considered an insane attempt. |
