Click on the state and then on the county to see old penny postcards from that area.. pretty neat.

Been to plenty of concerts here.

And most of the cards posted for Jefferson County Colorado, are pretty much the same as when I lived there. more development around them though.

Now for the Upper Peninsula "The UP" where my mother is from.
So I grew up with stories of Michigan.
This is her hometown, Ironwood, MI. when she was 10 yrs old.

tarrant county court house in fort worth. even though they've made a lot of additions it looks pretty much the same because it's a historical landmark or something.

Then and now:

The original Wausau High School. Built in 1898 for $65,000. This postcard circa the 1940's.

This photo taken today, 7/22/09. The former Wausau (East) High School is now apartments.

The most recognized train depot in America. Built in 1901 for the Milwaukee Railroad. The right side of the depot was used in a mural, beginning in the mid-1950's, for the advertising of the former Wausau Insurance Companies, which was the first sponsor of a new television show called 60 Minutes.

This photo taken today, 7/22/09. The building has since been "sold" to the Boy Scouts Of America at the rate of $1.00 per year.

Train trestle across the Wisconsin River. Built circa 1875.

Photo taken today, 7/22/09.

The Rothschild Pavilion. Built in 1911, this was originally an end-of-the-line trolley stop, and it had its own park area, complete with a roller coaster called the Whizzer. The Pavilion crammed in over 5,000 people on its opening weekend in 1911 to dance on its 6,725-square-foot wooden dancefloor. The floor is supported by 28 railroad springs, which gives it a natural "bounce", perfect for dancing. As far as I know, it is the only surviving one of its kind left in the country. Many legendary artists played here, ranging from Lawrence Welk to Buddy Holly. In subsequent years, it had been used for roller skating, weddings, and other gatherings. After several years of falling into disrepair, a restoration effort was established in 2006 to restore the building to its original splendor, complete with removing the fake ceiling to re-expose the original vaulted ceiling, removal of asbestos, and upgrading of the bathrooms. A $2.5 million effort, funded largely by donations.

The Pavilion today, 7/22/09. Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to take a photo from the same angle as the postcard above, as the riverbanks are now much closer than they were 100 years ago, and the overgrowth of trees make visibility all but impossible. This picture is of the front of the building.

The Wausau Club, postcard circa 1905. Erected in 1901, this building was made as a private, exclusive club for the "upper crust" of the city and area (lumber barons and such). It functioned as such until it's closing in the early 2000's. Over the years, it was expanded to include a 16-room dormitory, added in 1922. Many structural changes have happened over the years, including the removal of the outside piazzas in the late '60's. Many rooms inside have been remodeled from their original use (for example, the downstairs 4-lane bowling alley has been converted into another dining area, etc.) Since its closing, it sat dormant for a number of years until it was purchased by private owners, with the intent to reopen it again as a high-class dining establishment, but this time, to the public. Unfortunately, the new owners found millions of dollars worth of structural problems with the building, which slowed production down to virtually a standstill.
