I enjoy fixing things! i can fix washing machines, and i can appreciate DIY challenges!

Altho Dans height does come in handy, saves me pulling out the ladders! lol!

i haven't met many women who are good at fixing things, especially cars and none of them looked like you . most of them looked more like me...and shared my taste in women. laugh

i have learned the hard way to fix things, gotten pretty good at it too over the years, but it would be so nice to have someone who could do those things for me again, i do miss having someone around for those things...

I do like to use my 3/8 inch variable speed reversing drill. Mainly because it makes it sound like I know what the hell I'm talking about.

I hate thatgrumble

I had to pay one even when I wasn't single.. Seems a lot of men don't know how to fix cars these days...

you can cut them (all of us really) a little slack in that department. the engine compartment of modern vehicles looks like a computer factory threw up. some stuff that used to be simple and require a few wrenches now requires a $100K machine. boooring.

and here's what really bugs me about it...most of that junk is purely to meet some BS enviromental restrictions. in theory, technology should be able to provide us with massive MPG and power gains by now but modern trucks get no better MPG (in some case worse) than my '94 and the power gains are nonexistant in some cases. where gains exist they're smaller than they could be. the same can be said of cars in many cases. they brag about 35mpg...my old 87 honda got about 32...with a carb! rant

sorry,i'm going on car rants again...

Fixing a car with wrenches and home tools are long gone unles you have a pre 2000 car. Not even that small cheap car mechanic can do it, you either need to go to the dealer , where they gonna attach your car to a computer and special made tools (or no tools at all) needed. All you can do is a general maintenance, (oil change, tires, battery, bulbs) and the rest of the engine requires tools and computer software that a home-mechanic do not posess.

example.

Adjust the fuel/air ratio mixture on this:

I'm so glad I grew up a tomboy. bigsmile I watched my Dad and brothers working on the rigs so I can do alot of it myself. You can buy a Haines manual and it tells you how to do the repairs but like someone mentioned previously, the cars these days are mostly computerized so backyard mechanics is quickly becoming a thing of the past.sad It sucks 'cause I swear they see a girl walk in and automatically double the estimate. I had a guy try to charge me over a hundred dollars to replace the battery!! noway I told him I could do it blindfolded with one hand tied behind my back in under five minutes. Idiot! Needless to say I got it for free but still, they do tend to rip women off. ohwell

Six feet of snow and no man was the worst thing for me about being single! Shoveling snow up to your neck at 4:30am to be able to get out for work sucks!grumble I got sick of it to the point where I actually considered getting a man, then I bought a four wheel drive truck instead! Reliability thing. laugh

I really do not care about having a mechanic available. I think not having someone there for intelligent conversation and sharing is hard.

Gimme a mid 70's to late 80's car and I can probably fix it.

I took a look under the hood of my 94 Grand Prix the other day and I was completely lost.

The new computerized stuff make the men less needed in a woman's life. Thanks new cars!

The last reason for a woman to have a man is gone. No wonder why so many single men.ohwell

see I didn't even realize it was so much harder.. But I get it now.. Last week my car overheated, I lifted the hood and found 2 dipsticks.. I checked them, transmission fluid was good and oil was good.. That's as far as I got, everything is crammed in there, can't tell one thing from another... It's in the shop now.. AAA towed it for me... laugh

Whoops. That should have read my 04 Grand Prix. Not 94.

That's what I get for not looking at the keys on the keyboard....lol

But yeah. Cars have gotten a LOT harder to work on.
