Topic: "Unique" Defined | |
---|---|
Hmmmm...IMO it's just semantics...why bother? If the term "unique" makes someone fell better about themselves...who are we to try to tear that down? You would therefore, I assume, be OK with confirming a midget's assertion that he is, in fact, seven feet tall. If he was a seven foot tall midget...he would certainly be unique amongst midgets, wouldn't he? I just don't see the point in tearing down people's profiles...not all are going to be published authors... If that's the best they can do...then let them express themselves in the way they are capable. I don't care for the 9 page profile diatribes...I find them pompous & boring & have stated that on my profile in the past...but I'm not going to start a thread about it. I feel the same about the Glorious Profile threads...does it really elevate one to tear down another? But that's MY opinion & that's what makes ME unique... |

From your definition everyone should use the term unique to describe themself. No two people are exactly alike therefore we all are unique. Indeed |

Watch out, Motown! Agreeing with me might not be considered unique!

Nobody wants to say they are just like everybody else, including you. I don't think it's necessary to make the claim, though. People can come to their own conclusions based on what you present to them. Self-assessments are rarely worth the paper (screen?) they're printed on, at least in terms of validity to someone else. How many times have I seen someone describe themselves as "sexy" or "caring" or "intelajint" -- ?? Doesn't make it true. It's just a word they throw out there to make an impression. Should everyone just leave there profiles blank then? Kinda defeats the purpose of why we are all here. In terms of informational content or substance, most of them leave theirs blank, for all intents and purposes, anyway. It just strikes me as somewhat contradictory when someone writes "I'm the most unique person you'll ever meet! I like to watch movies and hang out with my friends!" And it could be that she really IS the most unique person I would ever meet -- but not for THOSE reasons....!? True. Should they instead write "I am just your average bloak with a suck azz job. I am 2 months behind on my rent so the only enertainment I ever have is when my lame azz friends bring over a video" ? Creative licensing I believe. |

"Everything is beautiful, in its own way,
like a starry summer night, or a snow covered winter's day......." (swaying side to side) |

This is unique--> REALLY stupid but unique---> unicorn bat s**t
-ooooh-fart!!!!--shucky-darn-moo-moo-cow-plop.... Fried chicken grits--corn bread-and sum ostrich feathers--square dancing in vegas.... P.s. boob butt barnyards- flying caviar... The end |

i am unique.
i ride a unicycle naked in public every morning, with a blowtorch in one hand and a flyswatter in the other, there is icecream music coming from under my seat, as i yell about how delicious a desert of liver and onions can be..... and i have a propeller cap that only turns some of the time, or when i fall, and that's usually in the shower when i can't slow down. |

I think everyone thinks they are unique. Genuinely. But overall, we're pretty much the same. Kinda sad... but whatever. I'll get over being average and boring. |

One might be forgiven, I suppose, for wondering about the tactical efficacy of Person A "tearing down" Person B for his/her misperceived "tearing down" of something emanating from Person C -- particularly when Person C is never indentified in any manner whatsoever and is not on this site. I guess I should feel grateful that this sort of behavior is relatively rare and always seems to stem from the same small clique. Be that as it may, I will reiterate that no one is obligated to read anything I write. If my opinions, attempts at humor, laundry lists, etc., offend you, you're free to stop looking at them whenever you like. |

I don't think it means as much when a person calls themselves unique as when others consider them unique. With that being said I consider everyone unique. I have never met two people that were exactly alike. I thought I did one time but they turned out to be twins with completely different personalities.

You are absolutely correct, Lex...which is the reason I usually don't participate in negative threads...but again, this is a Forum where all opinions should be tolerated if not welcomed...even ones aimed at the less "word-worthy", I suppose...I do find it interesting that you should quote me & then mention "cliques" in your retort...I see no clique...only my opinion...which happens to vastly differ from yours in the case of complaining about profiles...I hope my opinion didn't make you feel "ganged-up on" by a clique...it's just lil ol me... Have fun in your thread...

Please refer to first paragraph of your response, there are atleast three dictionary words and four references to persons only known as A, B, and C. Goat chow and Goat pepsie for 5 minutes. P, loved your post btw. I love women who tell it like it is and stay true to that. I might just be a lesbian afterall. |
