Thanks to the information era this is a trend that is sadly going out of style. When you buy a cd or a track online if there's bonus material hidden at the end you'll rarely get to hear it. Sadly, if you just steal the album with a torrent site you're more likely to get the whole thing in its entirety. I can only recall a couple of examples over the years... Green Day on the end of Dookie, Tool's 'Disgustipated', there's some noise at the end of one of my Opeth albums. Can't remember which one. Its always a nice surprise to find though. |

Man are you for real?
YOu mean most of the population don't even listen to the real album any more? That is a shame :sad1: |

you know its interesting but the biggest threat to the music industry right now really isn't piracy, its iTunes. Most people would rather just pay a dollar for that one song they heard on the radio than 15 for the whole thing. So the artist makes next to nothing AND most of their music doesn't get heard. However, most people that download music will get the whole album (and often discography) and a large portion of us actually will go out and buy the cd if we like it enough to keep it. I had a collection of about 200 albums before they were stolen and I would still rather buy a cd than download. There's another trend that died with the era of tapes and cds... special songs/messages that can only be heard when the song is played backwards. It was way easy to do with a record, next to impossible to do with a tape or cd without special equipment. There's plenty of software out there now that will do it for you, but most people don't care enough to look for it, and very few artists actually put those kinds of easter eggs on their releases anymore. |

Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE fan of live music, buying albums and helping the musician get his money. (probably because I am a musician too but thats beside the point :P) But at the same time, I did dig how linkin park rocked it, getting big online before thier album was even released, it was pure genius and a sign of our generation.

#1 Just because youre a musician doesnt change the importance of your views
#2 Promoting anything to do with "music" online is bad #3 Hello how are you? #4 If you were Sting, I would care that you were a musician #5 But Sting has cooler pictures |

oh very true, but still figured it might be worth mentioning. #2 Promoting anything to do with "music" online is bad
I do agree mostly, but at the same time, when linkin park did release thier first CD, they still got ALOT of sales even though over half thier music was already downloaded. I guess its the angle you stab it at? #3 Hello how are you?
drunk as a skunk and happy as a clam, you? #4 If you were Sting, I would care that you were a musician
