Well, I know how I do it but just for the sake of mixing things up I am interested to see how others face their fears.

One of my worst is getting blood drawn. I hate needles so Frikken much I cannot begin to describe it. I had to have a blood test done today. It is the second one I had in my life. This was out of total necessity so I would not look at my arm and had it drawn from the back of my forearm. I know I sound like a wuss but I have been known to become quite irrational in the presence of needles in general. Well I am still alive after the sample was taken. The whole time my forearm would not move but I sure was tapping my foot fast.

Now I know there are those who will say SPIDERS and the way they face them is with a can of bug spray or a book. We can leave spiders out because that one is silly unless you live in Australia or South America where the spiders can in actuality kill you.

I want JUICY fears.

Clowns is a good one.

Agoraphobia?

Tasty!

So how do you face your fears?

The force is with you!

Or is it the Schwartz?drinker

P.S. I an being tested for Mold exposure so no strange rumors please... Cheap landlord, illegal rework on the house, had the house tested by a professional lab, MOLD found!, again cheap landlord, need to get an attorney...

See where this is going but enough about me...

This thread is more about YOU!!!

THIS IS YOUR MOMENT TO SHINE AND SHOW US ALL WHAT METAL YOU ARE MADE OF!!!

Fear of letting people down.

Thankfully am getting over it as I get older.

Spiders scare me, I face them with a flip flop or yell for my son...ohwell

Speaking in front of large groups is another... I have been forcing myself to make more presentations in meetings rather than avoiding them like I used to...

Relationships scare me, not doing anything about that... bigsmile

About the only thing I'm truly afraid of is high places, like that normally experienced while being in a skyscraper. I've tried all sorts of ways to combat it, but nothing's worked so far.

So I face the fear by NOT facing it all together. laugh

Sunday my son yells frantically that there's a spider in the sink. I chastised him for over-reacting, although I too have a 'discomfort' with spiders. I casually grab a paper towel to prepare to grab it.... then take a closer look and realize it's a brown recluse! I grabbed the spray handle and drowned it first, lol. I wasn't going anywhere NEAR it.

One of my doltish friends put his pet tarantula on my face while I was asleep a number of years ago. He thought it was funny...

... until I almost smushed it with my hand, that is. laugh

I usually face my fears with a shotgun! It works for me.

Probably my biggest fear is water over my head. I just don't jump into the deep end of the pool.

I don't know if it counts as a fear, but I don't like snakes. It is not that I am afraid of them. I just don't know anything about them. I don't know the good ones from the bad ones. They say to look at their eyes and the shape of their head. Heck, if I can see all of those details, I am way too close. I do appreciate a rattlesnake because he gives you an audible warning when you are invading his personal space. Another thing I don't like about snakes is that they are all camoflaged and slither around all sneaky like, and when you finally see one, it is too late, you probably already stepped on it. I hate those pucker factor 10 moments.

I don't think that I have a fear of heights, I just have no desire to jump out of a perfectly good airplane or something equally stupid.

Also, not really a fear but I don't appreciate the people that have tried to hurt me with guns, knives, baseball bats, sticks, body parts (fists, head, knees, and feet), beer bottles, boards, cars, trucks, a three foot tall ceramic cat statue, an icepick, pieces of furniture, bodily fluids, bricks, poles, doors, and my personal favorite, an ax. Oh yeah, and the person that literally tried to clock me over the head with a mantle clock.

Your fears don't exist outside the realm of your own head. Therefore whether they exist or not, it is a null set and therefore you can logically override the fear as irrational and pretend they don't exist each and every time.

0_. Sounds like their family tree produces alot of nuts.

I'm not scared of spiders, hights, water (but rivers are iffy), snakes, walking outside at night..... but for some reason I swear I live in a dorm thats haunted. I mean, it use to be a hospital for the insane. The weirdest thing is the bathrooms... I was in the bathroom and someone was sniffling in the stall next to me. I go to find the person, but I'm alone. If someone we're in there I would have known, the exit door is LOUD when it opens. The funny thing is the shower room. Your in there and sometimes you hear metal shower hooks move on their own. The door there is also loud enough to wake the whole building up. I'm not really scared... until 2:00am...scared

I have a real fear of loud angry men. (Sounds stupid, I know.) I was married to a violent alcoholic for 10 years and was beat-up, obviously. Since that time, if I am around a man who is being really loud and especially if he is waving his arms at the same time, I tend to go into a zone, I seem to watch his arms and what they are doing, but don't really hear what is being said.

I worked in the prison system after my divorce and one of the supervisors I worked for there was tall and had a big booming voice and he talked with his arms waving around. He would stand at my desk and tell me what he wanted me to do and I would realize after he left, that I had no clue what he had said because I was watching his arms (to make sure I wasn't going to get hit - old reflex from the marriage). I would have to call him and ask him to "clarify" what he wanted me to do and then I was okay. Finally just told him what was going on, after that he would come into my office and sit in a chair and tell me what he wanted and there was no problem after that. We got to be famous friends and once I wasn't watching his arms waving around, I had no problem understanding what he wanted me to do. (Sorry this is so long.)

I used to be really afraid of spiders. Then about a year ago I was at the Field Museum in chicago and they had a creepy crawly exhibit. Look what I did! Now I'm not afraid anymore!

I also held a millipede that day, and a HISSING COCKROACH! Of the three, the tarantula was the most pleasant to hold. He was really soft and surprisingly light.

Whatever you try to tell me that when I'm at the edge of a cliff and nothing to grab onto to have a death grip on shshsh noway

Yeah I'm scared of heights but I will still climb up on the house if needed to put up my Christmas Lights but sure my neighbors wonder what the hell I'm doing laying on my stomach making my way to the edge of the roof to hang them while others just walk up to the edge and bend down and latch them. Sshshsh not me being on the edge without some comfort will not happen at allnoway noway If I don't have something to hold on to or look from afar then I stay away from the edge when at any height.bigsmile
