I would think that stress could have an effect on your hair. Stress does have an effect on the entire body...especially when it is extended and maintained over a period of time..

Stress response in the body effects every system in the body so it would make physiological sense really...

Stress can also create some anxiety and the body response to anxiety can be significant...again, if the raised anxiety level is maintained over time, the effects can be multi-system as well...

I say yes, it can.

Age old question of nature vs nurture. Like most everything, it's a combination of both genetics and environment. My mom was gray early, married with 4 kids, little stress (other than the 4 kids of course). I started getting grays early, single mom of just one, high stress job for 10 yrs., I didn't stand a chance! I'm loaded with 'em now! Just be thankful you get to look distinguished and handsome with your grays...I just look old. ohwell

Good idea on the proactive treatment though!

a while back i had a girl tell me it was gross that i had gray hair showing. i guess that's what young people think. i'm not vain enough to dye it. i'm just not cool with the concept of looking my age.

i definitely think stress can speed up greying. but here's what will drive you crazy...if you hadn't been stressed, would the hair have stayed dark? it's impossible to know without a time machine. about the closest you could do to figure something like that out would be do twin studies.

-abduct twin babies as soon after birth as possible
-control as many variables as possible, including diet and sleep
-bug the crap out of one for 30 years and let the other one have whatever he wants.
-continue until one or both turn grey...of course they might never and then you've commited multiple felonies and cared for two people for no reason.
