OK...here is my soap box moment for the evening. I really don't care who agrees with me or not...sometimes you've got to go against the grain.

Is it REALLY that big of a deal??? Does insulting, making jokes and putting others down help anything? Did anyone stop to think that maybe they might not be as educated, typos, bad day or just don't care about spelling, grammar and punctuation? are these people some how inferior to others? NO. If this is all people have to complain about in life...count your blessings for that.

and while I'm still on my soap box....this thread has been done MANY times before. Just like the "nice guy" threads and other such threads. But when a new member does a thread that has been done to death....people pounce. Don't forget we were all new at one time too and everyone has feelings as well

drinker drinker As I've said and still think, spelling and grammar aren't a sign of intelligence drinker drinker

I know some people are just joking...but I know I have seen people get very nasty and rude about it as well. it really doesn't help those that might have spelling issues. It's not much different than that thread about people at the gym making jokes about others working out

Just a thought

Yes, it has been done a gazillion times just like nice guy/ nice girl threads. Doesn't keep them from happening though. And everything you said about does it really matter has also been said before. People have different takes on that as well. I have been under the assumption that anyone who finished grade school should have had these skills down back then. Obviously not the case. Speaks a sad story to our public school systems, IMHO.
i just want to coment on this statement real quick. when i was in gradeshool i was on ridling for being real hyper and put in eh classes to keep me confind in a cubecle were they could close me in cause i was sidetract easy. anyway teachers back then was not educated like now and they passed people into the next grade just so they didnt have to deal with you anymore

I've seen some get nasty and rude as well, once when a guy that I happened to know had health/mental problems was extremely down one night and talking crazy talk. All that person did was correct the spelling. I think there was a more urgent situation at hand in that moment. I do happen to think correct for the MOST part, spelling and grammar are a sign of schooling/upbringing/intelligence. But I do completely see what you are saying and can appreciate you saying it.

Simple grammar, simple spelling errors, and getting an idea across without someone having to actually think what you mean. These are things you should have learned in high school. Simple grammar errors are ok, but 72 in your profile description alone? Spelling is just something you should know how to do, sorry. There's two things on this site, your words and your photos, that's what we're working with people.

Ok, for everyone else that didn't get the paragraph up there.

I'm gonna give the spellin an grammur police sum food fer thought. I've been chattin with a very nice guy from Germany who's gonna be movin to the states soon. He told me that's he's contacted others an they made fun of him because of his spellin an grammur. He thanks me everytime we talk cause I don't make him feel like an idiot cause English is his 2nd language an I make him feel better bout Americans as a whole cause I take the time to talk to him an correct his spellin an grammur in a polite way. What does it say bout our country when someone who's tryin to learn English an make friends before he travels to our country makes fun of him?shades

I've spoken with him on the boards before. He asked me to mention anything to him that he spelled incorrectly. He does Extremely well!!!!! Very nice man. He emailed me and said I was kind to him regarding that.

I was really appalled when he told me about people makin fun of him an ridiculin his use of English. I was ashamed that my own countrymen wouldn't communicate with him an make him feel welcome. If u go to Germany, they're not gonna sit there an pick at u for not bein able to speakin Deutch correctly.shades

No one is to be singled out. Hell, that guy speaks 2 languages. Who am I to make fun of him? I know one Italian phrase and some high school French. The whole idea here was to laugh at common mistakes that native English speakers make. I just hope no one looses there sence of humor.

Good heavens can you imagine? Southern accents in another country/language! laugh laugh laugh

Thing with that is, all anyone had to do was click on is profile or better yet listen to him for very long and he said he was there and moving here and as I recall he said "my English is not very good". I thought he did excellent!

Sense and sence.

Yep, I was just gonna say that, but Winx beat me to it. I mean, what the heck is a "sence of humor"? It's listed in so many profiles. Hard to take a person like that seriously.

I've seen too many profiles saying that too.laugh slaphead

some people don't have pictures and prefer not to for whatever reason (yes I was in that thread too)

maybe someone has learning disabilities. Einstein was called stupid because of it. or maybe the schools failed them in teaching them. teachers in public schools are usually under paid and crowded classes. to some parents they are nothing but glorified baby sitters.

again....this type of thread isn't productive IMO
