Share a favorite memory of your dad!

One of mine is when I was 5 and 6 years old, getting up at 4 a.m. to go out in the boat to check his trout lines with him. I was his helper.... at least until my little brother came along!grumble

Another one, I've written here before, but it's absolutely my favorite memory of him. When I was sick as a child, which happened often, he was in the bathroom holding my hair back a with a cold cloth on my head. He yelled at my mom, "Marie, Robin is sick again." Mom's response, "Well what do you want me to do about it, stand on my head and wiggle my ears." I was so sick, but I burst into fits of laughter and dad started laughing, there we were, both of us on the bathroom floor laughing our behinds off.

I used to think it was the COOLEST thing that my dad could look at any car (not so much anymore) and tell you the year, make and model. flowerforyou

I used to help my dad rebuild stuff. Cars, boats, pretty much anything. He was the best at making something gorgeous out of nothing. I learned how to be resourceful and look at the possibilities in things that other people viewed as junk.

One memory I have was when my dad went out and bought this brand new camper type van for family vacations. I think this was in February. He brought it home and we all went out to see it. He told me to look in the closet. Inside was this gorgeous pink suede winter coat with a fake fur hood, perfect for a little girl like me. He told me that they had them at the dealer (apparently they did this kind of stuff back then) and that he told them he wouldn't buy the van unless they threw in the coat for me! He was always doing things to make his "brat" feel special.

I've racked my brain to try to think of a fond memory of my dad and I truly cannot come up with one. I was never good enough because I was not a boy .. my brother could never do any wrong. That's what most of my memories are about sadly.... I haven't even called my dad yet to wish him a happy father's day.. reluctantly I will later.. but my stomach will be in knots the short time I am on the phone with him...

I have extremely fond memories of my step-father.. Nothing was beyond doing for his kids... He did my hair every day b/c my mom didn't want to deal with my hair long and would cut it.. He taught me how ladies should be and shouldn't be.. He took us trick or treating, cooked every night.. He was usually both mother and father b/c my mom was busy doing her thing.. Not negating mom but she didn't have to sacrafice as much b/c he took care of everything.. He was a wonderful man and I wish he could have lived long enough to see his grandchildren and be a precious part of our lives....

That's wonderful! flowerforyou My dad used to comb my hair too. Those big, callused hands gently, albiet, a bit clumsily, putting my hair in lopsided pigtails!

I have a few but one that still makes me laugh is when I was 18 I had asked my dad to go see a movie with me at the Drive In.

Yeppiers I said Drive In there was a movie that came out that I had asked my dad if he wanted to go see it with me. Told him I thought it was one with Burt Reynolds in it. You see by the name of the movie I thought it was one of those action packed films he had been making at the time. Well we got to the drive in and I told my dad I would go to the concession stand and get the popcorn ect before the movie. Got back to the car and I decided to get in the back seat so dad could stretch his bad leg across the seat and I could stretch out in the back.

Just about the time I got me a mouth full of popcorn the name of the movie came across the screen as we saw Cheech and Chong driving down th road with a all this smoke bellowing out of the windows. Yeppiers if you have not guessed it yet the name of the movie was...............

"UP IN SMOKE" WITH CHEECH & CHONG {See I was thinking of the Smoky & The Bandits type movies}noway

I almost choked on my popcorn as I was spitting it out apologizing to my dad that I had no idea I thought it was with Burt Reynolds.....

Moral of the story is always check to see what a movie is about before taking you parents.....

But I must say we ended up sitting there laughing our azz off ohhhhhhhhh if he was still here today I would literally go buy that movie and watch it with him again. I do truly miss himflowerforyou
