Do rotary phones still work on standard phone lines?

I few years back I amazed my kids by plugging in a corded touchtone phone, one with the heavy keys you had to press all the way down, but it wouldn't create the tones anymore. I dialed my mother by flashing the hook... which is really what the rotaries do. They thought it was magic!

I used to do that on payphones as a kid. I forgot all about that. Thanks

So what do you want me to comment on, Ms.Seakolony?

What you wrote, is just another fact of life. The proof to how hard we work to improve the standards of living for our future generations.

Until now, that is. grumble frustrated mad

I would have to disagree with you...and say this about the over 40 crowd.

I'm damn close to 30....and growing up, my folks had a microwave. And as far as video games....it may have not been a playstaion....but it wasnt atarti...it was nintendo.

Nope it's the 30's + crowd. I agree kids now a days are spoiled.

Just goes to show you there is loss in gain. No matter how much further gets progressed, we lose as people because of it.

Who thought the Wizard of Oz was scarier in Black and White compared to technicolor? I personally thought it was way scarier.

rofl rofl rofl I remember those days!! The Atari which was about $200 and every game had the same graphics...who remembers blowing in the cartridges to make them work?

We had Pong before Atari and Colecovision with donkey Kong after Atari!

I had parents that would beat you...and made you go out back and cut your own switch!!

We didn't have microwaves until I was about 11 or 12...we had a toaster oven....

Whatever happened to the typewriter?

We had a computer...the first was a Commodore PET computer with 2k of memory and a tape drive that took two hours to load a 5 second program written in BASIC.

Then we 'upgraded' to an Apple IIe with a whopping 64k of memory!! My watch has more memory than that now.

I wasn't raised with alot but I got REALLY good at what I did have, a push mower (my uncles), an axe (also my uncles), and my own 2 hands. When the lawn mower broke down I learned how to fix it because money was tight, that mower lasted years over any of our neighbors that seemed to buy 1 every year. The axe I got surgical with by the age of 8 and with that as well was maintaned, sharpened when dull, replaced handle with 1 that was widdled with a hatchet and knife if handle broke. Finally... my own 2 hands have kept me out of trouble when I was little (for the most part), done everything from trying to dig to china (the neighbors dog was my only competition at that) to drawing. Oh yeah 1 more thing, when your mother sends you to the plumb tree to get a switch...don't bring back a leaf...it made things WORSE!

I'm amazed that they even had 'real' toilet tissue back in the 8o's??? :) I don't mean the nice, soft delicately fragranced toilet paper you get these days...!? The stuff I'm talking about when I was a child was smooth as glass on one side and like sandpaper on the other... not the most thrilling stuff to use? Yes, people today just don't know that they've got it easy...! But then, when they too grow up - they'll be screaming about their awfully hard deprived lives only having the internet, apple iphones, Jacuzzis and 2d playboy magazines.... no 3d yet..... sadly.

Yea, I will never forget, "Son, go out and turn the antennae," my mom would holler out the door when my dad said STOP. but then I went too far and had to turn it back the other way. The cars they built back then, you could get in a fender bender and keep on going, now days, your car is totaled. CD's were the bomb, cause now you could go straight to the song you wanted to listen too instead of rewind and fast forward. How about the BIG CHIEF writing tablets we always had to have for school, Do they make them anymore? How about the single door refrigerator that sounded like a car engine and when you opened it, the freezer was on the top with a little tiny door that was big enough for one ice tray, and the ice trays were metal and had metal dividers inside that separated the water and after it was frozen you had to grab the handle and pull up on to crack the ice free.
LOL the old banana seat bicycles...
The little fans with the BIG motors that had metal blades and the guard around it had spaces big enough to put you finger in it, man you didn't do that but once.
