You mean you expect people to read profiles?

I could understand that if there was nothing in my profile. However, if I'm emailing someone, I will read their profile and comment on something there. If there's nothing I'm interested in there, then I wouldn't email them.

I only e-mail friends I've made here, I have no intention of meeting someone for a relationship so I don't pursue that course. Also one of the reasons I changed my profile to read "I like bugs and serial killers"...that ought to filter them, you think?

Well if you respond to "hi" with "hello," then they may write back saying "how are you?" Then you can write back saying, "I'm doing fine. Thank You." And you see how the conversation progressively grows one or two words at a time? Eventually, after about 30 e mails exchanged you might get a whole paragraph out of them.

lol i started talking to one guy and it felt like pulling teeth to get him to talk more than a few words. i asked if he was shy....he said yes and had never done the on line thing. i told him to just start babbling like me. after that, i got at least a couple of sentences

sometimes people might be worried of rejection too or not sure what the other person wants to talk abot or know.

i'm just thinking out loud here (i know....people tell me to stop thinking lol)

It is because when you get a reply from only about 5 percent of your emails, you get burned out writing long, informative emails with a lot of passion knowing it did no good, so you do a quickee to see if someone is interested

If you're putting no effort into your emails, perhaps that's why not many are responding?

Exactly. I get tired of having to drag things out of "shy" guys in emails. If I have to do that, I'll lose interest very, very quickly.

If you don't put yourself out there, you get nothing. Shy is a huge hindrance in dating... but you know what? It shouldn't be MY problem.

That doesn't make a lot of sense, though. If you don't know how to start a conversation, or what to say, why are you emailing someone? Are you hoping they'll lead the conversation for you?

Yep! I concur bro.And furthermore how about a long detailed e-mail.O.K. granted I'm a writer so it's second nature for me to do so.However even if I were not I certainly would not hand some 1 or 2 liner or some cheese ball corny line to someone that I have serious interest in.Does that not defeat the purpose intended?If the role were reversed I'd be laughing my nips off & saying What A Loser!;)I keep the corny & humorous quick liners for the forum entertainment only.As they say there's a time & place for everything right? LOL, thanks for posting this! I`ve gotten so many of this kind of email, and the minute I reply to them It keeps on coming and there goes the How are you part, the weather and what are you up to? LOL.. and it never quits until I don`t reply anymore.

Yeah, this morning, the guy's second email was asking me how the weather was.

I know you say you're kidding, but if you read any of this thread, you'd know some of us are just looking for a little bit of effort. Which seems difficult for most.
