Well, he beat out my bet of a week. I hate losing bets to myself, makes me feel so inadequate.

Yes it matters. We're not talking about a typo here and there. But there actually is a D on the end of the word 'and', it isn't "would you like too go wit me, if so writ me and I will writ you two". I sometimes wonder how some people graduated high school at all. Speaks well of our public school system I suppose.

Sure, spelling's important, in some situations it's far more important than others. And it's going to be far more important to some people than others. In a casual setting, such as this one, I don't think a few misspelled words here and there mean much. However, and this is a big however, if your lack of spelling skills mean that your messages are unintelligible, than that's a BIG problem. If people can't understand you, that's a BIG problem. And poor spelling skills tend to go hand in hand with poor punctuation and grammar skills. When you combine them, well, it's very difficult to understand what someone is trying to say. I also think that by not having and/or using basic grammar skills (including spelling) you are disrespecting yourself. And if you don't respect yourself, how is anyone supposed to respect you?

Maybe someone does feel there is a time and a place for correct spelling, punctuation and grammar. They just do not feel this is one of those places. You never know, maybe someone that does know how to do those things (at least a little bit) may feel that they will just act like they do not give a rat's butt about said things, to filter out the anal retentive types they would rather not deal with.

On a site like this, your contact is written, spelling does matter. I'm not saying a typo here or there is a big deal, but if you misspell the majority of what you type, it's going to take away from what you're saying. But, of course, that's someone's choice. If they don't want to correct anything, by all means, don't. It's also my choice not to try and figure out what the mess says.

It's a personal preference, everyone is entitled to screen people for whatever reason suits them. It becomes an issue when folks offer unsolicited advice regarding grammar/spelling in the forums, and generally from what I've seen, not in a kind way. It is then considered attacking/insulting which is against forum rules.

No one is entitled to insist that someone conform to their own personal standards.
