I am a widow living in Dallas. I was married for 31 years. My late husband had Parkinson Disease the last 16 years of our marriage and it was a hard road. It is very hard to start living life again after being married so long and living alone is not much fun either. I am hoping to meet some friends in here.

Like you, I am a widow. I live in AZ and my late husband had lung disease for 9 years so I know what you mean about a hard road. When your spouse has a terminal illness, you both live the misery of it. We were only married for 11 years so most of our married life was spent battling his disease. It is very hard to start over again. I spent the last 9 years focusing on his health and taking care of him. Now, it's just me for the first time in a very long time. But, you know what, you cannot look back. I thank God every day for the years we had together because we were truly "best friends." Now it is time to move on and live again. Nothing worth doing is ever easy, but it can be done. Don't know about you but this whole internet "dating" thing still makes me feel a little uncomfortable. I do know a few people who really had great people come in to their lives this way though. I mean once you're over 40, 50 or 60, where can you meet people. Everyone at my little chuch is married. All my old friends are couples, married or dating. I'm way too old for high school dances, and bars are not where I want to meet someone. I think this is a good start in facing the world again.

Hello songster I am in az also.I hardly get out to do anything or go anywhere. My life has been working and going home.It seems strange to go home to a empty house...my husband has left me and went back to australia, that is where he is from ,we were married for 10 years.Recently my son and his wife and I have all been going to church together. It is a big help but I do not want to depend on them.I am just interested in finding friends and get back to life a bit.Its nice to meet new people and make new friends.

Welcome to all the newbies!
Like many, I too am a widow of 8 years. I found this site, and more importantly, the 50's and over forum in January while I was home recouping from surgery. I knew I had found a home and wonderful friends. Join in often....we are glad you found us! Mary (5x10) |

Hi Foster,
Welcome! Any time you want to email me is fine. I've been a widow now for 14 months and I have days that are okay and then days that I boo-hoo some. The thing that gets me through is rearranging things around here. I got "new" (used) furniture all in pink and lavendar, plowed up the backyard and did an English garden, put shelves in the bathrooms for all my junk, etc. When I'm not doing that I visit Mingle2 and see what all the normal people are up to. |
