a little bitter still long hair. LOLflowerforyou

i would say realistic

if that makes him look bitter

then what does that say about the system

(if they move in charge them rent and get a rental agreement)

[just a thought]

Alimoney is taxable income. Money paid for services given in the past and not compensated for.

The system was set up to protect us from ourselves.

the system is set up to get the govt as much as it can

the payer of the alimony pays income tax on it

then the one that gets it has to pay it again

besides does not alimony make marriage legal prostitution

i can see a severance package for maybe 6 months if unemployed at the time

but it is not like a divorce gets approved overnight that gives some time to plan ahead

Most states, but not all I understand, do not let a divorce affect what either party had brought into a relationship before the union was made legal. Things acquired during the course of the union are usually considered to belong to both parties involved. Yes, one partner may work, while one does not, however they are still considered part of a partnership because they are contributing their time and efforts to running a house hold. Just as if children are involved, and one parent has custody... child support is usaully in order. Just because they are divorced does not mean the non-custodial parent should be relieved of all parenting responsibilities. Yes, some people have taken advantage of the system, and just as with any man made solution to a problem, it will have some aspects that are not working out after time has tested it.

i do not think anyone is saying child suppoert should not be paid if a child is involved

alimony is not a child support issue

they are two different issues entirely

Ali money is paid for a job done and not paid for.

I happily collected alimoney for the better part of 15 years. I put my husband through college Masters and a CPA . I rasied the kids. I earned every penny of it.

When the marraige ended I was attending college and trying to start my career. He reached his goals. I was still attaining mine.

The system porects people like me that make personal sacrifics for the betterment of the "family".

Was not trying to make child support part of the issue at hand.. just using it as an example of why systems have been put into place, because there are people who do not take responsibility. I do not believe anyone should become rich off of alimony or child support on the back of the working person. flowerforyou

and under those circumstances you should be repaid for your college loan

but the kids were as much your responsibility as his

there will always be those that do not live up to their responsibilities

just as

there will always be those that try to take advantage of others

One would not bother me. Especially in my position. I've heard horror stories of people taking widowed people for everything. There are some real sickos out there.
