So we should pack mainly shorts? Yup, shorts, t-shirts, definitely summer stuff. I'd bring a light jacket but I doubt you'll need it. We've been getting a LOT of rain, definitely bring umbrellas. Maybe a wet suit? I think you can put them in your checked luggage (if you have any). |

Wow, there was a shooting at the Holocaust Museum, no details yet but they're saying it was a cop who was shot. man can't they give the violance a rest Especially there! They're saying one cop got shot, and one other person is injured, though no details yet. And the shooter is "contained". Doesn't say whether it was in the museum, street or what. |

God do I needto bring my gun with me? No, actually that part of DC (the Mall) is one of the safest places in the country. In all the years I've lived here, I can count on one hand the number of violent crimes down there. The Holocaust Museum's got the highest security ever. Their metal detectors are far more sensitive than airports. They've had a lot of threats over the years, that they take very very seriously. Guy was a nutjob. |

thats good to hear cause we wanna go to D.C. to see the sites before we leave!! Yeah, the tourist areas are most definitely safe. There are the occasional report of pickpockets and muggings but mostly that's at night. Day time, it's generally as safe as can be. |

Oh, and when you arrive, you will most likely encounter some incredibly lovely and polite people offering to sell you maps of the Mall. They are very helpful. However, you can get the map free at any of the museums. The homeless take the maps and sell them to the tourists. It's quite a racket. But, they are helpful in getting you oriented and it can be worth a couple of bucks
