Topic: Concentration problems | |

I can't concentrate at work. I've already had too many write-ups, even a suspension due to making stupid mistakes because I can't seem to pay attention. My mind is constantly cluttered with too many thoughts. I try to "not think" and focus on my work, but it dosen't seem to be working.
What are some things I can do to help strengthen my concentration? I've tried exercising, get enough sleep, and eating right, but it doesn't seem to be working. Any suggestions? |

If you have just recently stopped drinking/drugging then rest assured... this too shall pass. If you haven't just stopped and addictive substance and you drink or use... this may not pass to quickly...
Many in early recovery tend to have that same exact problem... thoughts constantly running in and out of their heads and sometimes these are referred to as voices in their heads... other times they really hear voices in their heads for some time... Good luck with that one... I would pray on it. Harry |

Lay back and relax. Now tell me about your thoughts.
Maybe a therapist? |

Try and make your work more interesting. Learn a new skill, or try and get a different position at work that challenges you more.

Ironically, a spliff.
Whilst marijuana is famous for making you lazy and cluttering your thoughts, if your problem is over-thinking, a nice bifter can help you stop doing that. But im not really recommending you do that. |

Is it the same with other activities or just work? If it's like that with a lot of things then it could be ADD....talk about it with your doc. If it's just with work, then maybe you simply hate your job.

Try and make your work more interesting. Learn a new skill, or try and get a different position at work that challenges you more. The main problem is that on one of the machines you enter 1 or 2 for how many panels you want to plate, I was mixing up the numbers, putting in 1 for 2 panels, 2 for 1 panel. I don't even know how I could make such a dumb mistake, but I have. My mind is so cluttered with thoughts, it's a huge struggle to try to concentrate and focus on what I'm doing, at the same time, I feel rushed, so I rush myself. I try not to let myself get rushed and just focus on what I'm supposed to be doing, but it seems like no matter what I do, nothing works. |

I agree with the talk to your doc advice. ADD or some form could be it, or even some OCD. If meds didn't help in the past, the doc MIGHT recommend a different one. Often you have to find the one that works for you.

Maybe you need to make a new process for the way you go about doing your job. Once you have done something a hundred times you start doing them on autopilot, but when there is detail that has to be spot on you cant rely on it. |

That's kinda the problem, I do the same thing, but kinda different for each job. I have to pay attention to detail, but I have trouble doing so. |

He took this advice and applied it to his sex life. |
