My apologies to you Catwoman for potentially starting an ugly debate on your page, but to elaborate on my previous post above in regards to remembering and honoring the confederate soldiers...

Let's not forget what side they were on and what they were fighting for, most notably pro-slavery!

If we are going to blindly honor any American fallen soldier, NO MATTER WHAT CAUSE THEY WERE FIGHTING FOR, then we might as well visit Timothy McVeigh (Oklahoma bomber's) grave and leave him a rose and an American flag. After all, he was an American soldier fighting for what HE believed in, right?

Or perhaps some of us wish we were living in the CSA today, as opposed to the USA.

I'm just sayin'...

Timothy Mcveigh is not a fallen american soldier.
when he bombed the building and killed americans...

and besides he did not die in the line of duty. Please do not compare fallen american soldiers to timothy mcveigh. Its comparable to stepping on all those braves souls that actually fought for america and died for america graves.

Catwoman,

I'm surprised. You didn't catch the sarcasm in my post?

Of course Timothy McVeigh is not a fallen hero. Same as the Confederate soldiers weren't. OK?

Fanta....I will celebrate ANY way I want. I celebrate all soldiers EVERY day as my father taught me. no just celebrate them one day out of the year...but EVERY day. I am not going to wait until after a soldier dies. I will thank them every day as well as the vets and honor those that have fallen. THAT IS WHAT MY DAD TAUGHT ME AND HIS WISHES!!!! I honor my dad doing this. My dad died when I was 7 on a routine mission in the AF!!!!!!! he would want all soldiers, vet and fallen to be honored daily, which I do!!!! to not do this would dishonor my dad!

like I said...you celebrate how you wish...I celebrate how I wish

You just want to argue!

Those who served ask for no honor!
We do not ask to share this day.
We seek no glory, but we do remember those who gave it all!
We will never forget!
We only ask that the country also never forgets!

To not realize and honor the tradition of the day as it was meant is no honor at all!

Fanta, please stop!

You mourn this day the way you choose to and we will celebrate it the way we choose to.

I don't think yellowrose and I are arguing with you. You calling us unpatriotic, and dishonoring the fallen soldiers hurts!

i just woke up from a long night at work..im fuzzy for the first 30 min always, lol....and sarcasm is not always evident online...lol

now i think it would be a debate whether confederate soldiers should be honored today..........I would say yes at this point. because truly they were americans fighting together as one. both sides should be honored. even if it was americans fighting against americans.

no Fanta...you want to argue. I told every one how I celebrate it, as the way my dad would want it. The soldiers don't ask for anything...that doesn't mean I won't honor them and thank them

I will say this ONE last time.....YOU celebrate as you wish and let others celebrate as they wish. It would be a dishonor to my father if I didn't celebrate every day, every soldier.

I will NOT be told how I should honor soldiers by anyone. I decided to honor my dad's wishes.

for those that say it's a dishonor to recognize the soldiers and vets still alive...then it would be an equal dishonor to the soldiers that died that wish to have all soldiers honored every day not just once a year on a date that was chosen.

I put flowers on my dad's grave on his birthday and when he died and visit his grave regularly during the year

You are absolutely correct and I retract my previous statements regarding the confederate soldiers. I realize we have happy minglers amongst us that live in the south and have great grandpas or great uncles that died as confederate soldiers.

I guess the thought of the south having won and all of us today living in the Confederate States of America and what the whole "confederate" ideology was all about kinda scares me...!

Yikes!

I agree

look at all the traditions these days that have changed during the years. I don't celebrate my own bday because I cleebrate it every day. I don't celebrate holidays (only as traditions when my son was little) because I celebrate them every day

see OP...this is not a debate about the wars in which these soldiers fought. this about remembering the American soldiers that died while fighting in whichever war. that is what memorial day is aobut.

of course we have brave soldiers fighting NOW. and people that come home disabled in many different ways...they deserve respect and admiration also.

but this holiday is about the ones that lost their lives fighting. and yes of course prayers out to the soldiers fighting today.......lest the join the ranks of dead american soldiers.

VIetnam was not popular. neither is Iraq. Today which war does not matter.....

Confederate soldiers did not fight for slavery!

If you're going to live here at least learn our history!

At the bottom of this memorial located in Arlington National Cemetery

is the inscription,

“Not for fame or reward -
Not for place or for rank -
Not lured by ambition -
Or goaded by necessity -
But in simple -
Obedience to duty -
As they understood it
These men suffered all -
Sacrificed All -
Dared all - And Died”

The very first grave site in Arlington is a Confederate soldier.

I'd like to interject one small thing here an then I'm gonna let it be cause this is not the time or place to debate such things. Mahan, I would greatly appreciate it if you would do some extensive readin on the history of the civil war. Yes, slavery was one of the issues which started it. However, it wasn't the only one nor was it the main one. It's been turned into that over time. There were many factors that started it. None of which I'm goin to debate at this moment. I detect a bit of a bigotness towards the south and that's very sad.

If the CSA had won the war there would still be a USA and there would not be slavery today!
The South did not fight for slavery!
They fought for their rights as guaranteed by the Constitution!

This is memorial day!
It is a dishonor for the living to share this day as it is meant to honor the unselfish sacrifice made by those who gave it all!

Im sorry you fail to see this!

Remember my fallen brothers, like your dad, and leave me out of it!
I have served as an Honor Guard at too many military funerals to accept it!

Oh wow... Nice!

Me, a biggot? NOW I can say I have heard it all. As a 1st generation Middle Eastern born American citizen, I've been called a rag head, towel head, camel jockey, ...
But never a racist! I call everyone a happy mingler. I was just saying I would be worried that perhaps I would be even more discriminated against had we been living in the CSA where most likely slavery would still be practiced...!

I'm sorry if I sounded like a biggot... I'm just gonna go hang out in the game threads where my backward biggot racist mentality doesn't offend anyone...!

Fanta...drop it. I will honor my dad's wishes over yours. to not honor him would be a dishonor.

My dad wrote me, my sister and my mom each a letter in case he died in the service. He wanted us to remember all soldiers and thank them every day and honor those that died every day. these were his wishes. he didn't want thanks for doing a job he loved for a country he loved but he did remind us the sacrifice of every soldier. and if you are offended that I honor all soldiers every day and not just on one day...then that isn't my problem.

I will honor my dad's wishes because I believe in them as well over anyone that only wants one day to honor a certain group
