I ahve checked into that. They aren't cost effective at this point.

Maybe when they can bring the efficiency up and the cost down, I will get some.

I know what you are saying. You see I am saving my money to later study for an electrician degree. Hopefully down the road, it will be like what you have said.

Not that I am complaining about my current profession or anything, but just think that our energy system will be reformed in such a way where many consumers will have the option of saving money. I would like to be a part of that service. :)

That's a very cool goal to have.

I can understand the need for using alternative energy sources. The problem is that I don't make a whole lot of money, and the vast majority of the new ways of getting electricity are pretty expensive.

That, added to the fact that solar doesn't work particularly well where I live, especially in November when it's cloudy for around 28 of the 30 days, doesn't make using solar cost effective at this point.

But there ARE lots of alternative energy options today and many are very affordable. I'm planning to build on my land in Colorado completely off the grid. The $15K it would take for the line extension is a big chunk of not NEEDING the line extension!

You are indeed correct. I have been reading a lot of good things about what is going on in the state of Colorado. You can be surprised that it is because of many bright leaders inside that state who have many backers to push this movement forward nationwide. Ken Salazar is one of the many politicians who is embedded in this potential.

The problem for me is that for most of the systems that would remove me from the grid, the startup costs alone would equal about 1/2 of my yearly pay.

I simply cannot afford it.

I would LOVE to be able to get the place I am moving to set up to be more energy independent, but the cost of doing so is beyond my means at this point.

I couldn't convert my existing place either...starting from scratch is more do-able. HOWEVER, you can work on item by item things...hot water, windows, etc as time/money allow and that will help, right? Just another reason to look for alien life forms in Roswell :)

Potentially...

How is it possible for an otherwise sane, rational and responsible person to LOOSE THEIR FREAKIN' MIND???

Bah. That's easy. LOL

It really doesn't take much. Besides. It's not like you are losing your ENTIRE mind. Just part of it.

Better off without it anyway. LOL

I'm working on it. I am running a bit low on vacation time so I may have to do some creative shift switching.

If it was small and round it could roll into the grating!
Or ... if it was blonde and full of air, it could just float away.laugh
