This is a very accurate analogy. Except, to be fair, the bowling pin must be very friendly, clean and sexy. May-be it already is... I just never perceived a soap bar or a bowling pin as of anything sexy, but that's just me. |

Why can't be something else than those 3??
I'm sick and tired of all of them. Here is my requirement for an OS: I want to launch applications. That's it. |

I meant, all applications. Not 10% what's on the market. I prefer MAC applications anyway... most of the time I can download them online for free. |

Almost all windows apps can be downloaded for free.

Almost all windows apps can be downloaded for free. Free or not, I don't remember the last time I paid for any app, outside of an occasional game. |

It's not how many applications , but having an OS that won't interfere ,but easy to use, and doesn't give me limitations on use and make me sign all sorts of BS and even limits me when and how I want to launch that application. |

Have you tried Linux recently. It is not nearly as complicated as it claimed to be and with a little learning and work you can tweak almost everything. There are many ways of installing and using Linux besides the most common automatic methods. You could compile everything from source if you are the masochistic type, but there is no need to do so. |

PC but I need a MAC for my photography soon.... A common myth. That has been the case like 40 years ago. Today, a PC (which by the way can run MacOS, as PC is not Microsoft Windows, but simply a free platform), even loaded with windoze, can blast any mac away. |

Today, a PC (which by the way can run MacOS, as PC is not Microsoft Windows, but simply a free platform), even loaded with windoze, can blast any mac away. The pinnacle of photo editing apps Adobe Photo Shop runs on both OSX and Windows and you can even get some fairly recent versions to run on a Linux/Unix OS. And if you do not need the absolute best and/or do want to shell out the astronomical prices for it, their is a very good open source and free photo editing program called Gimp. It may not be as good as Photo Shop, but it pretty close especially since it is free. |

PC with Sun VirtualBox installed. That way, I can install all the OSes I want via emulation. In fact, I'm presently installing OpenSolaris to see what the buzz is all about.
