My daughter and I have been donating our hair for almost 10 years now.

Locks of Love actually makes wigs for children that have lost their hair due to chemo and radiation treatments. Once the orders for the children are filled then the make wigs for adults, the children come first always with this organization.

The nice part also is that many hairdressers will send the hair for you and your cut is free then.

This is why my hair is long right now, I hate it short so I need to keep growing it so that I still have somewhat long hair and still can donate.

Well Kaitlynn came by tonight and still loves her hair short but think we are going to take her and get it cut in a different style a little later. But she is all smiles I have her hair and the stuff all filled out and ready to mail. I'm just happy that it was long enough to at least help someone out in the end.

If you have never been to the Locks of Love site you should visit it for it is a great thing that they do for kids.

Again thank you all for taking the time to read and kuddos to all those that already donate or have donated as well.

Good job Kaitlynn!! Quite a few of these posts really show how selfless children can be... much more than adults at times. I think it is wonderful when a child can put themselves aside and think about others first. Donating hair is a wonderful thing because it will always grow back... I think that most adults tend to forget that it is only hair and will not stay short, so why not cut it off and give it to someone who can truly use it?

This program is great. St. Jude's Children's Hospital and research center takes hair donations as well. The very first time I had my hair actually cut except for my bangs I was 27 and it was on the death of my grandfather, an apache tradition, I donated my hair to them in memory of a high school friend who died of leukemia. My hair reached the middle of my calfs at the time. Until you see the wonderful results and smile that is put on faces from these gifts you never realize exactly how such a small thing is such a big deal. Kudos and keep up the good work. Your granddaughter has a kind heart and a great outlook~ flowerforyou
