Thinking bout you today How scared you must have been Trembling Holding onto papas hand Leaving Italy Your homeland To enter America Living in a ghetto of new York No money Only papas love Raising me in poverty Even though I was made rich by your love The kitchen was your sanctuary Always filled with aromas Of a loving mother All the nights spent at my bedside Nuturing me through Chicken poxs and colds Beaming at every birthday As age took it's toll I love you mama I am me Because of you Tammy

Beautiful thoughts makes me think back when my great grandparents immigrated from Prussia (after leaving Germany) to the USA in 1906 and the life they struggled to maintain and make a life for my grandfather and for the ones to follow.
