 How would you respond if someone said they loved you, and you didn't love them back?

If it's too soon,,,
I'm sorry, I haven't developed the same feelings for you yet. I don't want you to be hurt, just give it some time and we'll see how it goes. I want to be sure this is what I want.

If it's not going to happen,,,
most likely, I have already backed away and have told her I would like for us to be just friends.

If it's an ex,,,
"_____", while I still have feelings for you and want to see good things happen for you, we both know we'll never have exactly what would be beneficial for the both of us. Please don't pressure me or guilt me into saying something like that back to you as it would be only superficial...

It's happened before.

I've said "We haven't know each other very long. Let's give it a little time and see what happens."

I've said "We just met. This is crazy!"

Farther back my memory gets fuzzy.

I would stuff a Twix in my mouth and chew until I could come up with a witty response. It works on TV.

laugh

with my luck I would have eaten the twix long befor that happend so I would need an emergency one avalible .... chances are I would have eatn that one as well tho so I guess I would have to say with a smile, thank you I apreciate your feelings and altho I care for you deeply I take that emotion seriously and feel that I would be irersponcable to say I love you back at this time. I dont want to jump into something befor I am ready and I hope that you understand that I want to learn more about you.

unless I dont like them then I am wondering why I am hanging with them in the first place.

I'm pretty honest. If someone tells me that they love me, I have to respect their feelings first of all. But initally, I reevaluate my behaviour towards them. Did I send out the wrong message? Because usually when the 4 letter word is dropped, the guy must somewhat think that I am feeling the same way. or at least is hoping that I do. No one wants to be rejected. We don't just come out and say :I Love You" unless we somewhat feel that the other person will have the same feelings. Also usually cues are dropped way before. Little things as in: "Missing you, thought of you, You make me happy!" little conversations like that. How did i respond to those? Did I send out the wrong message, making him think that I feel the same?

So the guy said it..if I am not feeling the same way, I first of all tell him that I am very flattered, but then tell him, that I think that he is a awesome person, but that I don't feel the same way.
Simple as that. Just blunt and honest!

It stings a little at first...but I was on the outside before looking in.
The playing it off does not work.
The ignoring after the " I love you" does not work.
The beating around the bush, does not work either..just be honest.

I don't think there is any solution to the problem. The best way is to be polite as you can be because it may had happen to you one time, or it will happen to you.

If it was someone that I really cared for and was interested in, I'd probably say something along the lines of "and I hope to soon feel the same way about you" because it would be true. If it was someone that I wasn't even close to having those feelings for and knew that I never would, I would just say that I appreciate their honesty in sharing that with me, but that the feelings just weren't mutual.

OMG! I had this happen just last night. I told her I was very flattered, but she just isn't my type. Whe she started asking what my type is I told her I didn't really know, that I just got a feeling when I'm with them and I'm just not feeling it with her. She seemed to understand, but she may be plotting her next move.
