and they wonder why they are in trouble (they the auto maker)

if they are not competitive then they will not sell

it has been 30 years and teehy still have not learned what their greed costs

and so much for an american made care

they are all multinational now

so does it really matter what you buy

honda is probably more american made than chevy (my caprice was all metric)

Partly why I felt we should have let 'em sink into oblivion. THere are actually quite a few small time auto manufactures. Problem is as soon as they start to be competitive one of the big boys buys them out and they become just like the rest of the cars out there. We should have offered the money to some of those small time companys to spur them into major growth and let them pick up some of the slack by the dying monoliths.

That's one, a more contemporary example was Saturn, now owned and driven into the ground by GM

A lot of my family paid a heavy price for this country, and
I'll be damned if I want to create a bunch of Shake-n-bake citizens!

It means more than jumping loyalty to be called American!

but auto workers are over paid

you can not expect some one that makes 12$ an hour to be able to buy an auto built be some one making 30$ an hour (and get an inferior product compared to other product in the market place)

------------------------------------

ok i was off just a lil bit

Leaders of the United Auto Workers are striving to combat this myth. The UAW reports, and news organizations have confirmed, that the average wage for a veteran auto worker is $28 per hour. Many cashiers and nurse aides and burger flippers still will perceive that this is too high, but at least the number is in perspective. Furthermore, the Big Three automakers have negotiated to bring general entry level wages down to as low as $12 per hour

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1234921/average_uaw_pay_28_not_70.html

So you vote Americans lose their standard of living.

I see, even though when I look around,
Many Americans really don't have it that good!
The middle class is disappearing and the chasm between rich and poor is getting wider!
Many have no health Insurance, and
many more no retirement plan!

Don't you understand that globalization depends on America's standard of living declining?

again you read into my post what you wish

maybe those that make less should also get paid 28$ an hour

the auto worker gets paid more than the ave american

thus the average american can not afford to buy an inferior designed product built by parts from someone another country anyway

toyota honda and nissan all have and/or building factories in the united states anyway

..the only problem i see is that as civilization advances you either keep up with the times or you get washed away..feeding a dying horse only prolongs its agony and eventual death..sometimes it is just better to shoot it in its head although that may seem cruel.the suffering is over alot quicker..besides have you seen the price of feed these days ..its in the billions...smokin

If they lower the entry level wages down to $12/per hr does it not make sense to forecast that employees with experience or who earn more than the entry level wage (same lateral job)will begin losing their jobs in order to make way for the cheaper labor?

$12.00/hour is awful, IMO. Try supporting a family on that.

No that's illegals coming here and expecting to be given amnesty just because they managed to break the law!

To become American citizens without paying dues.

Im telling you!

They want to do away with generations of advancement in fair labor and the standard of living for Americans, so corps can increase their profits and drive us closer to globalization!

You cant live on $12 an hour, and they dont care.

We used to say in the Army, "you wont like it and I wont care."
Same difference!

They have brainwashed a whole generation or two of Americans to think this is good for them, and expect the rest of us, who know better, to just forget!

Ive been saying this was coming and predicting it every step of the way for 30 yrs.
For Globalization to work, Americans have to lose.
We are selling out a better life for our children and grandchildren.

Hell, we're selling out a chance for them to have an equal life.

Using the auto line worker as just an example.

In Mexico, the pay for a line worker is $50.00 a week. An Illegal would jump at the chance to take a line worker job here for Min. wage.

If they had to, they'd live several to a house to make the rent and bills.

A landlord who couldn't find American renters, would rent to them. Better have an income off the rent house than, let it sit vacant.

Now, remember, the Immigration Laws are not being enforced so, all jobs are free game.
