one wonders, why there are no pandemic alert levels for various other diseases which are far more deadly than swine flu and more widespread. mostly cause this is such a new and variegated strain that they don't have vaccines for it and are pre-staging all the resources and logistics to prepared just in case it really does flair up hiv/aids doesn't have a vaccine either... but it doesnt spread a hundredth as fast as flu does (although the mortality rate is much higher) sooo... we only raise the alert for mild, vaccine-less, treatable diseases which spread easily... but the more deadly ones which may not spread quite as easily but which have been killing off people in droves, in the most productive segment of the population.... no one bothers... makes sense. Most people are well aware of HIV and AIDS. You are possibly too young to remember, but in the 80's there was plenty of scare mongering and advertising about it. hahaha, mom's wouldn't let their kids swim in the public pools remember that kid they kicked lout of school? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_White |

The Point i was trying to make , is alert levels go up and down all the time , The reason your hearing about it now , is the people who are affected are american . If this has stayed somewhere that most people dont care about , it wouldnt be big news . Thats sad .

In the first place actually no deaths from the USA per say due to the 22 month old was actually visiting the US from Mexico.
But regardless if they are from Mexico or the USA does it really matter my Gawd they are still living breathing humans. May we all have a little more compassion for others regardless where they are from. Second of all I do feel that they are going to the extreme at times. But as far as the schools closing they are doing so in order to disinfect the whole school along with the buses. Will that be enough well to me they should do that regularly anyway maybe this will be a wake up call for them to do this. Third of all they have said many times that the best protection is washing your hands and to wash them as long as it takes one to sing Happy Birthday. That it's self is the main thing that all needs to do. Yes even our schools here in Fort Worth have been closed but then the smaller schools are still opened. The school my grand daughter goes to is still open. So the smaller districts have not all followed suit with Fort Worth on the school closer. Fort Worth did it for they have reported 1 case at one of the schools. So it is better to disinfect the schools & buses. Better be safe then sorry! Also the face mask they have already said that they will not stop you from the swine flu. You can get it when air born they also said it is best when anyone coughs to cough into you elbow and not your hand. Use disinfectant wipes. But those can not bet washing your hands. We do not have it half as bad as Mexico does they have 33 million kids out of school and have had at least 180 deaths as well or more. All I can say is yes we should be cautious but not to the point our lives stop. Will I be going to places where there is large crowds I doubt it I will for now stay away from those places as much as I can. Why because my immune system is lower then others and I do tend to get the flu or colds pretty easy. And even for now I'm watching my grand daughter due to her mom is sick she went to the Doctor today and has strep throat. Luckily my grand daughter has been at her great grandmothers the last few days anyway. Yes we do have more die by the regular flu each year but........this is a virus they do not have the vaccines for that is why they are asking others to be so cautious. For at this time they are not sure how this virus will mutate. So are they taking it out of proportion maybe but since they really don't know yet is it not better that they are trying to be safe? |
