I've found that the more effort I put into making a relationship romantic, the more it becomes that way.

If romance is what I desire, I don't rely on the guy to make it that way, or become such if he isn't. It is my reponsibility, if that makes any sense.

I've never really been into the traditional displays of romance anyway but if they become a regular habit, it tends to spoil it when he does do something out of character and which I would have come to expect.

Romance means different things to different people...it's not necessarily the stereotypical flowers and candlelight routine, but more about the interaction and the sense of caring created between a couple. You could be washing dishes together, working on a project, or curled up talking about your day and be completely immersed in romance...

Romance to me is simply doing something to make your mate feel special. I agree with several of the other ladies here in that:
1. it doesn't have to all-out flowers and poems in the moonlight. Sometimes, simple is best.
2. it helps keep the love alive and special; habits are hard ruts to get out of.
3. it doesn't have to be every night, but it should be often.

Just the simple act of a man walking up behind me and wrapping his arms around me while I'm outside on the porch, enjoying the evening is so delightfully romantic that the mere thought melts my heart. Money doesn't buy everything. I like the personal touch. Make it come from your heart and I'll treasure it always...

I didn't always think it was, but now I realize how much I do want it, especially when I did't have it in my marriage. Part of why am divorced now.

Agreed. Without the romance, why bother? Lot's of men are accused of not being romantic, but that sword cuts both ways.
