so, i'm in a library and everyone's quietly clicking and reading...
when suddenly a very, very fat man comes huffing and puffing into the large room.

i can't hear anyone else breathing, but many people suddenly stop to look at this monstrous man whose body just can't deal with his excessive mass.

i see people like this alot (go american culture go)
and its a sad sight. i feel bad for these folks and wonder how they get this way.

i used to see people like this and think 'its only a matter of time before i get the call for a cardiac arrest'.

making exception for people with honest ailments or conditions that lead to this sad state - i wonder how a person can let themselves get to this way. or why parents would tolerate an ever fattening, lazy child.

and...most importantly

*HONK* if you love cookies!

Well I guess there's only one way. Eating?

But I never think bad bout them. I lost over100lbs. Being made fun of hurts. I would never even think bad or judge them.

We have no reason to judge.

Most who are obese are miserable enough inside they don't need us to make them feel worse

Parents CREATE the fat child.

My little boy was sitting in the car with me at a red light and I saw him watching a morbidly obese girl on a bike, circling her driveway. He looked sad... and I said, what's the matter honey?

He said, "She is so sad. All the fat kids at school get made fun of, don't let me get fat. I'm glad you feed me healthy food and do healthy stuff with me. I love you mommy".

I feel badly for that man. I hope he can turn it around.

I would like to say the whole depression thing is bull in most cases. people who have everything handed to them are just lazy. You can't get fat struggling for a living. Nuff said!

A long time ago at a bank I worked at, there was such a man. He used to be handsome and made a good deal of money, was married and had a lovely daughter. The man's wife died of a brain aneurism (sp?). He was SO depressed after losing his wife, he ate and ate and ate. Sometimes his little girl would come into the bank to do his business. Sometimes he'd come in, but more often than not, we'd got to his car to bring him stuff to sign as he could barely get in and out, and it was so taxing on his body. It was horrible as he DID end up dying of a cardiac arrest. And all we could think of was his beautiful daughter being without either parent.
Food is an addiction as bad as ANY OTHER addiction. I used to use it and although I have never gotten THAT LARGE, by the grace of God, I certainly understand food addiction.

i wouldnt be able to live with myself.

All addictions are about how people can't live with themselves.

Indeed. Imagine the pain of people looking at you everytime you eat, thinking poorly of you. Emotional pain, it's the pits... maybe next time smile and say hello :)... you just might make their day! I know it does for me (makes my day when someone smiles at me)...

Who are we to judge? We don't know what their life if like, or what experiences have led them to today, this moment.. this situation...

We all have our own "fat" to deal with, it's just not always so obvious.........

Even better question is how did we start to judge "fat"? Now a days there are levels of "fat". Like me...am I "fat"? Look at my picture....be honest....I don't think I am fat.....but you get one of those obesity charts and....yep...I am obese.....however nowadays we only notice the ones you're talking about....and I am just the same! Crazy how life is

I used to have a very close friend who was morbidly obese. She got pregnant and was the thinnest and healthiest she'd ever been. She lost 50 pounds! She gained it right back, but she did eliminate soda.

She said over and over... I won't raise my daughter to be fat like my parents did to me. She deserves better than that.

I'd replay those words in my head as I watched her feed her daughter cake for dinner, as she didn't want anything else. She weighed 15 pounds more and wore a size larger than my son, who was two years older. This poor three year old was so fat... the pediatrician said something, so she switched doctors. I realized she did not love her daughter enough to tell her no, or to make healthy choices in her life... we are no longer friends.

I think when I see that extremely overweight women who while they are shopping at wal mart ( or grocery stores , eat snacks, chips and the like while they shop. That's when it irratates me the most. I do realize there are some cases, where there are "medical conditions" that warrant being overweight.

All my life I have taken care of my self, making sure I stay as fit as possible nad healthy . Healthy life style etc. I guess I always quetion it this way... "If I can do it .. why can't they"

But our society has become lazy I think. My sister is obese, my niece is and her 8 year old who I see every weekend is overweight / obese. All he does is eat whatever he likes. My parents, his parents, all let him. and they say we can't do anything about it. Family has a history of High blood pressure , heart disease, diabetes, and yet .. so this is a close to home thing for me... when I say I don't like overweight people/ women who say "average". It comes from years of seeing this first hand. And I make no apologizes for it. It is, what it is!

My weight is from experiencing depression in my early 20s. I gained a lot of weight between age 18 and 23. There are a lot of reasons for it but mainly situational depression and poor eating habits taught as a child (also obsesity runs on my mom's side of the family... either they are overweight or bilemic(sp?)). For the most part my son is healthy and luckily he has his father's genetics (will probably never have to worry about his weight).

I do however worry about the children I see that are overweight without having a medical condition. This is scary! for them to be starting out life this way.
