here is a sample:

I'm a specialist doctor in respiratory diseases and intensive care at the Mexican National Institute of Health. There is a severe emergency over the swine flu here. More and more patients are being admitted to the intensive care unit. Despite the heroic efforts of all staff (doctors, nurses, specialists, etc) patients continue to inevitably die. The truth is that anti-viral treatments and vaccines are not expected to have any effect, even at high doses. It is a great fear among the staff. The infection risk is very high among the doctors and health staff.

There is a sense of chaos in the other hospitals and we do not know what to do. Staff are starting to leave and many are opting to retire or apply for holidays. The truth is that mortality is even higher than what is being reported by the authorities, at least in the hospital where I work it. It is killing three to four patients daily, and it has been going on for more than three weeks. It is a shame and there is great fear here. Increasingly younger patients aged 20 to 30 years are dying before our helpless eyes and there is great sadness among health professionals here.

I am not a chicken little type.

Still, I think...it has potential to be serious...just like lots of things.

My Great Aunt was part of a family of five when the Spanish flu spread through the US. They lived in Michigan's upper peninsula and thought they were insulated because it was a small community.

In a short time two of five were dead. Young healthy women.

If nature wishes to have her way...we aren't special.

Before someone tells me I'm spreading conspiracy theories , could someone answer me this?

According to the medical research team, this flu virus is a composite virus from 3 different viruses.

1. Swine (pig) virus
2. Avian (bird) flu virus
3. human flu virus

One is from America, the other is from Asia, and the 3rd is from Europe.

The flu virus mutates in animals every year. Pigs and birds seem to be the most obvious.

It transfers from animals into humans through their bi products of living. In the air mostly. You cannot it get from eating them but living around them is the danger.

This mutation is a constant process that we cannot stop unless we eliminated the animals that sponser it completely.

Great. Inject them with pesos.
They need meds not money.

It's money for the medical crisis. Wouldn't that cover meds?

Meds sent instead of money would get to them quicker.

By the time that money passes through all the red tape, politicians, I doubt there will be enough for much vaccine.

Mexican Politicians value life about as much as our own politicians do.

There isn't a vaccine for it yet. It's a new strain that has all three varients.

It's hard to kill something that you can't identify.

there IS no vaccine

influenza mutates fast and every year there is a new strain.

EDIT: it doesn't surprise me that the Mexican govt is downplaying the severity of the outbreak. kinda reminds me of the old Soviets

Somehow I think, this virus is being around a lot longer, than being reported. It hit the headlines last week, but I wouldn't be surprised if the outbreak was already going on a couple of months ago. Just my gut instinct and knowing, that the media only picks up, when it's too just too obvious and unavoidable not to report it.
