Go to the doctor and get checked my brother after having it many years found out he had it due to his wife 10 years ago talked him in to getting checked out. Thank goodness she did he has to sleep with a oxygen mask on now he use to have big dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep now they are gone and he says he sleeps like a baby. Took time to get use to sleeping like that but he says it is well worth it in the end.
well worth it to your partner too cause they lack sleep over it.. nothing like someone choking for air in the night... im quite tired of slapping him and saying BREATHE!laugh

Yes, you should get a doctor to prescribe a machine called....an ionizer? anyway, they know what it is. Also, there is news today on front page Yahoo about a breakthrough of some sort.grumble bigsmile

id much rather deal with his loud snoring <which he does> than him gasping for air, seems to me he mostly gasps now and chokes then starts breathing again but not a full breath of air even... and he coughs all day too . you would think he is a very heavy smoker with serious breathing problems only he doesnt even smoke and never has....

Yeah, I shared a bedroom with a guy when I was in student housing. He had sleep apnea. His snoring was absolutely HORRIBLE! And when he wasn't snoring, he had this machine with a mask he put over his face. That wasn't very pleasant sounding either. His sleep apnea led to my sleep deprivation.

Hello,

answer to your sleep Apnea Question. I have a brother who is disabled and he has this condition and it is quite serious.
He sleeps with a cpap machine at night and it has done wonders for him and he does not snor. He went to a sleep clinic what diagnosed the condition and he is now better but still requires the machine. It is fille dwith Distilled water and provides oxygen at night and you breath a lot better. The amchine is taken in maybe twice a year and they programe the level needed and you just turn it on. But you need to sleep with a mask that is suited for your comfort. The company Medigas provides this in Toronto.

I hope this helps you.

Regards,
M

Hiya babe! Really? I've never heard of that before. I'm guessing I'm on my way to a sleep study.

Thanks everybody!

You really do need to get the study done. It isn't too bad, you do spend the night in a sleep lab hooked up to monitors, then they tell you if you need the CPAP machine or not.

If you have apnea and don't treat it, it will lead to medical problems down the line like congestive heart failure and heart attacks, etc. Also, things like falling asleep while driving your car and possibly hurting yourself or someone else, etc.

There are also some surgeries that can be done that may help so you may not need the machine, but they won't work for everybody, but if you are one of the lucky ones, you could have the surgery and wouldn't need the CPAP machine and it would fix the apnea problem if you have it. Take care.

My mother has sleep apnea. Her test indicated she stopped breathing over 50 times in a 1 hr time span. It affects her memory to the point that she is on disability because of it. She also takes several naps a day and never feels rested. You can hear her snoring ALL through the house, even her cat won't sleep with her. Poor thing!

Is she on the CPAP machine? These machines have made a huge improvement in people's lives. They do make some noise as they have a motor running, but people report feeling 100% better after using them at night. I would encourage your mom to get tested and get a machine if she needs it, will make her life much better. Take care.

For many years I was always feeling tired through out the day when working and at lunch I would go to my car and nap at lunch just to get re-energized. When the lunch time naps started to not work I was caught napping at my desk through out the day by the Boss.(not good)
The boss took me aside to express her concern and explained she had been monitoring me for a couple of days. On that same day coming home from work I fell asleep at the wheel driving, lucky for me the only thing that got injuried was my car. Those two things where a wake-up call for me. Contacted my doctor and got a sleep study done.
The study showed that I had a bad case of sleep apnea. I have been on the c-pap machine for two years now and what a different person I am, no more a cough potatoe, more active and sociable and sleep like a rock a night. Best thing that has happened to me. My suggestion would be to contact your doctor and get that sleep study done. It will make a world of difference for you. The new machinces now do not make any noise so it will not disrupt your partners sleep. You have to types of headgear to pick from that is right for you. One that goes over the nose and mouth or one that goes in the nasval passages. Sorry to be so long winded. Best of luck.

Yes I used to have it but I had gastric bypass surgery and I don't have it anymore since I lost all the weight. My husband had it bad. He and I both used to have the machines but I didn't need mine and his burned up when our house burnt down and then he passed away in July. I have tooo much experience with it.

I have used a CPAP machine for 12 years. Best invention known to man.

Sleep Apnea can lead to numerous heath problems. I snored so bad my wife and kids could not sleep. I slept, but never rested, I was tired all the time and had dark circles under my eyes. The problem will only get worse until you are falling asleep at work or while driving.

After the first night I slept with my machine, I felt like a million bucks. The machines are not loud and your partner should not even hear it. My girl friend says it is better that I wear it instead of dying.

Beside, I think I look like a sexy fighter pilot while I sleep.

You need to get it checked out, it is an easy problem to fix.
I won't ever go without mine.
