Topic: What can they do? | |
---|---|
My wifes parents are the reason all this keeps coming up.
my wife and I got ready for college this morning and my wifes mom just comes un-done on us and we didn't even know what about. she was saying we don't care and this and that you know I guess. Now the real issue is. My wife is on a SSI check and it's in her moms name we have been married for 4 months. and my wife is afraid in someway she can use that. and split us apart. What should I do about this? What can I do? Can she do anything at all? thanks |

I don't understand why her SSI check is under her mom's name. Is your wife under 18 yrs. old?
How can that break you two up? |

She must be her payee. At some point your wife was under age and or was unable to manage her money. Your wife can go have her check in your name as payee if she is unable to handle money.

You're both over 18 yrs. old. You're her spouse now. That position has more legal power then a mother. DragonFlyTat had good advise for you. |

Trust me she must not be able to pay her bills or mismanages her money that is sent through SSI. I am my sisters payee and have been for sometime because she is manic and when she is in that state everything gets shut off. So I make sure the bills are paid and groceries are in the house and clothes are bought for her and give her what is left.

She must need a payee for whatever reason. I don't see why she can't have you as the payee if you are married. That way you can elimate her mom from the equation. |

the best thing to do is to have your wife call the ssi office
they can answer any questions you both have |

Go with your wife to the SSI office.
Oh, and go before the end of the month. It's packed in there at the beginning of the month. |

you wife can call her case worker and have her mom taken off as her payee and have you on it instead..
her family is controling her as where its going to cause more of a problem. |
