Topic: What is the truth about the Alamo? | |
---|---|
Texas belonged to Spain until 1821! They could never get anyone to settle there until Steve Austin received a land grant and begin to settle there. When Texas became disgruntled over the Mexican Gov and the Mex Gov imposed a halt to immigration in 1830, Texas was claimed by both the US and Mexico. In 1830 the pop of Texas was 30,000 Anglos and 7,800 Mexicans! So both nations claimed the country from 1822 to 1830?? and that is why the war began? or was it that it did belong to Mexico all along? If so then what right did the United States have in Mexican affairs? If not then why couldn't there be a more peaceful resolution to the disputed land or was there no other alternative but war? |

So in the end many American farmers loved Texas so much that they fought for its independence as a single country. This is how I understood it. Then the Mexicans imposed that no more immigration can occur and they didn't approve slavery that I guess the Americans had such labor on their farms. Then the war happened and the Americans won and the United States ratified the country a few years later. I guess the Texans agreed on this vote??? Now today the Mexicans are pretty much reentering the country by the millions. Like Pat Buchanon says in his book "State of Emergency" - The Mexicans are invading our country and they are not taking a single life while doing it. Meaning that Texas's population will outnumber the Americans one day. What will happen if it does happen? Will there be a civil war? Will there be a peaceful coexistence? So much in stake and highly interesting if you look at this. I can see why the Mexicans believe that Texas and all its territories should belong to them and I can also see how the U.S. Citizens believe they won this land fair and square with the war with General Santa Ana at the time. |

Texans started it. They felt more attached to the US than Mexico. They had a 3 to 1 advantage in population. The final straw came when Mexico passed a law to stop American immigration and tried to disarm the Americans. The US Military didnt get involved until 1845 when they annexed Texas. Mexico didnt recognize the Rio Grande as the border and when American troops went into the area between the Rio Grande and the Nueces River the Mexican Army attacked them! |

from my understanding....the texas war wsn't an "american" war. they had volunteers like davey crockett fight. now Texas is a part of America....so if a war were to start then it ewould be an American war

Bad Mistake!
Mexico attacked US forces on April 25, 1946. By Feb 2, 1848 the American Army occupied Mexico City! LMAO |

Well at the end there are many opinions on that war that is for sure.
What is right or wrong really depends how you see it. I am sure Mexicans who have families that experienced these times had different views on this piece of land. Some were rebels fighting with the Texans and some were fighting against the Texans for a different idealogy. Then we have the Natives who only shake their head at the whole thing Those long articles I posted concerning the Mexian wars in this thread are interesting to read for they were written by historians and writers that specialize on the subject. How much validality they have is for you to decide. Have a great night and keep your holsters secure. I will be back asking more questions about the wild wild west |

smiles...let's do Billy the Kid next!!!! Now that is very interesting indeed, but I am tired now. Tommorow I will ask a whole bunch of questions on it and perhaps the mingle community will join in discovering things together on the subject. There should be a western thread we should create that we hang out on and just ask general questions on this period of time. It is a interesting time period wouldn't you say. I always wanted to know what money looked like back then. Where they all the same currency or a whole bunch of different type of coins. What was the common food did cowboys eat in the saloons? Did they have a menue? What type of clothing? Did every cowboy own a horse or was that a rare commodity? etc. etc. Or how was cards played. Was poker different then? How did they play it? |

or just a history forum....i'd be there Actually I did a history thread once specializing on Europe primarily. No one participated really as I posted each day for over a month interesting topics. I did it all on here actually. Posted Native Indian Spirituality for a half a year. Posted a writer's workshop for writer's and poets keeping them busy Posted a Mythology thread and it died off. Posted roleplaying games. They all seem to die off each time. I figure people are just plain busy with lots to do and of course we can't forget this is a dating site so many are looking for that love and special friendship. Well see you tommorow with questions on Billy the Kid. |
