What do you guys get the most response from "around the campfire"?

I get real nervous about performing when somebody says "hey play for us"
(scared performing monkey)....but, if the guitar is just available and
the mood is relaxed I'll just pick it up at leisure and bust into song.

I get a pretty good reaction from some of the mellower Eagles
songs..Peaceful Easy, Lyin Eyes, Tequila Sunrise and the easier U2 songs
(played easy "cheating" by me) Walk On & One.

I lost the tip of my B7 finger, and had to switch to a classical guitar
with nylon srtings (for the extra width).
I still have trouble with my B7, so I bar it..

I found an acoustic/elecrtic cut-away model that I named Ebonee..And, I
am slowly relearning my patterns. For a while, I tuned my guitar to an E
chord and played my chords with one finger, like a steel guitar..

I would rather play open chords, but when thae choice is between bar
chords, or not playing..Bar chords win!!\

First song I learned was "Needles and the Damage Done." I've had the
same Ibanez 12 string set up with 6 strings since '79. I too feel
tabulature is a waste. I just like to plink around and find the sound.
But, I fingerpick. I love the patterns you can come up with by letting
the melody float somewhere while the bass walks away with the beat.

I play classical guitar with nylon strings. I don’t use a pick, I pluck
the strings with the tips of my fingers. I started out learning to
pluck arpeggios in various patterns. I began with a Carl Fischer
Classical Guitar Method book.

One I learned how to play arpeggios, I used to play rock songs by finger
plucking the chords as arpeggios. I remember that one of the first
songs I ever played was House of the Rising Sun.

I stated playing when I was in my teens. Although, I actually begin
with an electric guitar back then and played with a pick. Now I play
classical guitar almost exclusively. But I had let it go for a large
portion of my life and have only gotten back into it recently.

I just learned a prelude from a Bach Cello Suite. The piece was
actually written for the cello, then transcribed for the Violin. I was
learning how to play the violin when I decided to try it on the guitar.
Surprisingly it works very well on the guitar precisely as it is written
for the violin. So that was cool.

I’d like to try my hand at some folk music too.

Tablature is just a pictorial of the guitar neck and strings isn’t it?
It’s been a long time since I’ve used tablature. I prefer to use
regular sheet music. I can’t read real time, but I can read it well
enough to learn it quickly. It takes me a while to practice a piece
anyway so reading it real time wouldn’t help much anyway.

By that I mean that I tend to play from muscle memory. Once I learn a
piece I just play it after that, I don’t need the music anymore.

I’ve been talking with some friends of mine who would like to get
together to play. One has a full set of drums, one has a bass guitar,
one fellow plays hollow body rhythm, and I still have my old solid body
lead guitar. So we’re talking about trying to get something together.
Haven’t done it yet though.

We're just talking about playing in the backyard & stuff. No serious
performing.

Actually, I've been trying to be a Renaissance man myself, but when
you're used to using a pick, the "Classical positioning"
reeks havoc on the wrists.

Joel, my buddy plays five string banjo, his wife plays acoustic and
autoharp..AND spoonss..What a blast!!

OMG..I used to have so much fun when dad would let me play the auto
harp!!

Spoons and banjos...what a blast. I have friends that play a lot of
Renaissance Faires. One of them plays the Hammer Dulcimer REALLY WELL.
They are all way too advanced for my meager ehem "talents" but they
humor me.

One of my favorite things!!!!!

I used to play the 5-string banjo many years ago. I learned
finger-picking on that. I did use picks though. In fact, I still have
the finger picks. Unfortunately I sold the banjo. That was a big
mistake. It was a really nice banjo and had a great sound, I think I
paid something like $250 for it back in the early 70’s. It had the full
resonator with an American Eagle carved on the back.

I’ve actually thought about trying to pick one up again. The problem is
that I already have too many toys (ha ha). Right now I have several
pianos, violins, and guitars. I also play the harmonica. I’m not
nearly as musical as it might sound though. I think I’m more into the
instruments for their own sake. I actually got the pianos for free,
they were all broken and I’ve been repairing them. Same thing goes with
the violins. In fact one I built from a kit.

I have no clue what I’m doing. I have no purpose in life. I don’t
focus on anything, I just dabble in everything. I think if I ever
focused on something I’d burn a hole through it. (ha ha)
