Pirates hold serve. Back to Detroit Sat. Let's see if the Lions can hold serve there.

by one measure the pens have already gone farther than they did last year...they need two to win again this year...but so do the wings... i do not think that the odds heavily favor the wings anymore at this point - though they may have a slight edge based on home ice and their experience as champions. by the end of the next game, one team will be ready to clinch and the other will be fighting for the opportunity to play in game 7. Elvis is on his way back to Detroit.... |

Late word is Datsyuk might be ready for Saturday's game. Maybe it would give the Wings the boost they need since the momentum has shifted. I'm hoping so anyway. Another game like the last and I will need either blood pressure medication or cough drops for the sore throat I gave myself. Bring on game 5

Funny that there hasn't been a lot of hullabaloo about Datsyuk being out. Think if Crosby or Malkin was out. It would be all you hear about.

If Malkin was out, I'd cry haha

If Malkin was out, I'd cry haha I think the Penguins would as well. Without him they would crumble. |

Bring on game 5 Having Datsyuk out is the one thing this series has been missing and it couldn't be harder on anyone else. It IS a severe handicap for the Wings and to their credit they are playing just incredible hockey without one of the games finest talents. There certainly was plenty of discussion before the last game about his possible return especially after his game day skate but I think the severity of his injury is what kept all the hullabaloo down. He was obviously too hurt to play in the earlier games and although he leaves a huge hole in the postseason, you just have to do the right thing. Datsyuk's absence will always be talked about regarding this series and it is really a factor for the Wings and the contest. |

Ready to start the third and it's 5 to zip. Datsyuk's back and the Wings are playing smarter with much cleaner passes. I give the Penquins one concession-the first penalty call was bad, but from there...way too many stupid penalties. This is where the experience of the Wings shine.
Now who has some pressure coming to them game 6? Hopefully for Penquin fans the players will keep their composure. If not, look for the Wings to win hands down. It's good to see Datysuk's stick handling abilities back-he was definately missed. |

I agree with PKD, the Penguins used a lot of really bad judgment last night. And what was up with Fleury? I'm an absolute rabid Wings fan but I really felt for him.
Of course, he gave us a major win, which we really needed. |

i'd say 2 bad calls putting them down 3-0 but then? no excuse. several players lost their cool...and made it a cakewalk for the wings. it's pretty easy to keep a team off the scoreboard if you are on the power play for two straight perionds!! if the pens scored during the 1st period when they were completely dominating the play - it is a different game. pens have to 1) forget game 5 and well - they still got their work cut out for them. Fleury was not particularly sharp but the wings were getting what they call "quality" scoring opportunities - it will no doubt be better if the pens can manage to get a 5th man on the ice... |

Having Dats back also didn't hurt them any on the pk, on the pp, and defensively. But, the Pens still outplayed them with Datsyuk until the Wings 2nd pp. That's when they let their frustration get to them and when the Wings knew they had the game in hand. Bylsma might have called a time-out and/or pulled Fleury more effectively at that time. Garon played well.
I think it is likely it will go to 7 back in Detroit...and that would be interesting. |

As a Caps fan, I tend to hate the Penguins. But the longer the series has gone on, the more I have been pulling for the Pens. Anyway, don't bother me on Fri. night, I'll be busy.

It's official. The Pens have gone farther this year than last...and they could get one more game but it won't be easy. Home teams have almost ALWAYS won SC game 7s.
In the 14 times the final round has gone to a Game 7, the home club has won 12 times. The last road team to win a Game 7 was Montreal in 1971. Toronto also won at Detroit in 1945. It has been 37 years so maybe it is just about time for it to happen again. |
