how many times have you really needed your cell phone for a true life or death couldn't wait till you got home or to the office phone call; versus idle chit chat what's for supper, what time does the party start, what are you wearing type of call?

Nothing life or death, but i am medical and i get a lot of calls for work. My folks are not in great health and i always worry when they call. My daughter is a driver and my son will soon be, so i do cautiously think about things.

ahhh... because everyone else has one. thank you for contesting.

especially with dating. you cant text from a landline and i have yet to come across a girl that doesnt use their phone for less than 6 hours a day.

The thing about emergencies is they often pop up just when you least expect them. For this reason I carry a cell phone--a pay as you go phone, so I don't have a monthly bill. I only turn the phone on when I travel and when I do my morning walks. It's for MY use and I don't give my number out to non-crucial individuals. I don't like chatting on phones so most people who know me just drop by to talk; they don't call me. I honestly don't remember the last time I talked on my cell phone. It was probably to ask someone directions to their location.

yes actually. one night this semester i was walking in from a night class and some ruffian came at me brandishing a knife. i continued walking but he proceeded to follow me from a distance so i promptly called home in tears of fear. my oldest sister came to meet me, and i perhaps think that he may have been frightened off by the fact that i might have been calling the police. ohwell

there've also been times i'd been stranded somewhere and needed to call my brother for a lift.

Same here. I LOVE my text messaging and is pretty much all I use my phone for. I get 200 anytime minutes a month and they are never used up.

I don't think I could count that high. But it is used more for general conversation and texting.

Well, I had to call mom the other week to let her know I was going to jail. The cops wouldn't let me use theirs. Other than that, I don't really care for talking on the phone just for the sake of talking on the phone, nor can I remember that long ago to know whether I really needed it or not.

...and true life or death situations, I don't think ever. After I crashed my motorcycle last year and people thought I might die, they had their own phones to call the ambulance.
