From the "It Figures" category....

My friend's sister was telling me about a site one of her friends was on. "I never heard of it," she said. She told me the name of it. I never heard of it either.

Having a couple hours to kill, and no bullets, I decided to take a look at the place. It seemed pretty typical for the genre: no forums, lots of flashy gimmicks but not much in the way of substance, a lot of contests and pop-ups and distractions to keep you from noticing that there really isn't all that much there.

Every time I see a site like that, I'm reminded of why I like Mingle so much.

But, since I was there anyway, I decided to do a search on the locals. They had tons of locals; again, pretty typical for the genre, EXCEPT there was one who was absolutely stunning. I mean devastatingly stunning, and if I could think of some more words that contained "ing" in them that I could add to the list, I would add them.

And -- it said she was 1.8 miles away from me.

Well, that's impossible, so I looked a little deeper, and then I saw:

"Last log-in: October 15, 2006"

Yikes.

By now, she's either dead, or married with five kids.

October 15, 2006 is BEFORE I even signed up on Mingle (JSH at the time)....!!

It's a conspiracy, I tell ya....

I figured this thread had to be from you, Lex, because "A lot" was properly written as TWO words, not one.

OK, here's what you do........

Take a nice 2 mile walk in every direction from your place, calling out her screen name every 10 feet or so. Use a megaphone if you have to. Be prepared to run if anything goes awry. Good Luck~!

My theory is that a lot of sites have a plethora of fake profiles to make them look more populated. (not mingle, of course!)

How does a dating site get going anyway. Do some just start out with no members and then grow from there, one member at a time?

Don't believe everything you read. Computers lie! I was communicating with a fella on another site. Sent him mail three days ago, read his response yesterday and responded again. The site said he hadn't been contacted in over a week and perhaps I should send him a message. Huh? I know he was contacted at least twice this week. Do I not count?
