Not sure if this is the right Community -
But does anyone know where I can find cheap candles? Ya know like which store I should go to? What kind of store?

What I'm doing is using the candles as "art" more or less. I accidently stumbled upon it one night when I couldnt find anything to put a candle in/on and put it on a picture frame and I found out what beautiful art candle wax makes. So i been burning candles and seeing what the wax makes. Where is the best places to go to get cheap candles? I've tried Wal Mart...

Wax is used by several artists ... it makes wonderful textures ... flows in interesting ways ... layers beautifully ... can be almost stained-glass like ... very cool

Word of caution though ... toxicity is an issue!!! Paraffin wax itself is generally considered non-toxic but does still possess some carcinogenic properties.

The cheap candles often have additional chemicals in them. Remember the cheap stuff comes from offshore so you really don't know what you are getting.

You can get irons and use heated shaped paddles to do entire wax paintings with. Whether you go that far or just want to drip some wax to cover an object protect your health.

Make sure you have good ventilation. That said ... it is fun to work with!

All the above ideas are valid. I still think the religioius supply store is the best bet 'cause their stock and trade is in part candles!
