US Condom Maker in Peril as Feds Buy Chinese Posted Mar 23, 09 5:25 PM CDT in World, US, Politics, Science & Health, Business (Newser) – The sole supplier of condoms to Washington's overseas AIDS campaign is likely going out of business thanks to Asian competition, the Kansas City Star reports. The feds are close to signing contracts with companies in South Korea and China, which charge 2 cents per condom; Alabama-based Alatech charges five. Three hundred American jobs hang in the balance. Alatech claims USAID implied it would continue to buy American. But a recent appropriations bill did not include a “Buy American” clause, and the agency conducted its business through a middleman, protecting the government from a bid protest. Alatech protested anyway, and is considering a lawsuit. What's more, Chinese condoms are “notoriously suspect,” one consultant said. Well why should we be supplying condoms for overseas campaigns anyway? Keep the money and invest it in our own troubles!

Are we talking about a leech company, that has found a warm place to exist selling rubber to the government that pays back with money it stole from us (taxes), and then ships the condoms overseas to sell to private pharmacies for a private profits? Good riddance!

Hopefully they won't supply them in Chinese sizes, a female friend recently returned from there and she was quite disappointed with the men there, so to speak.

With the population in China, as it is.... I dont think I would put my faith in the quality of thier condoms..

There are some exceptions to the rule i.e. multiple births.
