I think it was in poor taste, but believe he just wasn't thinking..

He was just thinking about his poor score... Still not right though...

Definitely in poor taste. My heart breaks for the kids that work so hard just to be able to even participate in any kind of sport, and then have to hear the president mocking them.

Typical Obama spin says one thing but means another..Brings back flashbacks of campaign promises.

I guess I'm off, but I kinda thought it was funny. He wasn't making fun of special olympics, he was making fun of his bowling skills... Also, I enjoy how the media is using this as a distraction while the Federal Reserve debases our currency a TRILLION dollars more.

bad bowler or not....anyone that has been around special olympics don't think it's funny AT ALL.

it's insulting them. they are very proud of their achievements

He bowled a 129, the president said.

"That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically.

It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said.

No, he was comparing his bad bowling to them, hence mocking their abilities. Whether or not he was making fun of himself is irrelevant, it was in poor taste.

My final thought on it is I think it's just a distraction and really a nonissue. I've worked with special needs kids by the way, so it's not like I'm not sensitive to the issues, but I just don't see it as harmful, I've heard 10 times worse than that on any average stand up comedy routine.

He had to have inherited it from Bush.

he did apologize and maybe didn't realize what he was saying. i am glad he said sorry....but anyone that has been around special olympics at all....now how sad the comment was. they work hard and are VERY proud of their accomplishments.

i wish people would learn to think before speaking

You are correct, this isn't a political issue really. It's more just the same ole' mentality that keeps going round. When you are involved with something like the special olympics (or in my case Miracle League), and you see the effort it takes for some of those kids to even make it to the playing arena, much less play.....and the joy they get out of being able to do something so "normal", it just hurts on a personal level to see the leader of our country making light of it.

I knew there would be plenty of people who found it funny, I just wasn't one of them.

Or raising a special needs child. If he came to my home and made that comment, the little prick wouldn't have any teeth left in his mouth.

And I was expecting something terrible. Geesh anyone could have said that with out meaning harm. Even kids in the special olymics recognize their limitations just as Obama was acknowledging his own. Didn't sound like he was deliberatly trashing the special olympics to me, so I won't assume he was and taunt him for months over it which I expect some will because they lie in wait for this sort of thing to prove something..

Bush said some stuff as well that I didn't think deserved the level of flack he got for it, same here.
