Answering the question seriously, I think it's a combination of too many parents letting someone/something else raise their kids, and the amount of drugs going through society. The pressure on Doctors to hand out Drug Company X's new drug is so much, that at this point society(the children included) are over medicated.

there are some parents that think the kids needs the drugs because doctors do push it. but as far as ritalin goes....those that aren't truly ADD....it has the reverse effect on the kids. but i do think parents want others to raise their kids fo what ever reason they have.....not all but it is becoming more and more

The US government and the public school system are willing to take over that role.

do they have a choice???? there are great parents out there....but you know there are some that can't take care of themselves let alone kids. while the kids are at school....they have to do what they legally can...or kick the kid out. the cops have to put up with kids on the streets because they skip school.

While maybe parenting is a big problem, but when you go back to causes of the parents downfalls you'll find government sponsored education at it's root.

alot of it is rebellion against their parents etc....the parents now don't seem to care. example....on my street (it's a sligh hill) there are 4-5 little ones playing in the street and riding things down the hill (where they could easily run into a car) the oldest of the kids is no more than 8 yrs old. the kids are from different houses. NO ADULTS TO BE FOUND WATCHING THEM. i know the kids play in the street so i'm extra careful to watch for them. the oldest girl (who is made to be the adult) actually thanked me for not running over her brother. i told her i do watch out for them but there might be someone that doesn't see them and to be VERY careful.

she said yes ma'am and said thank you again. sweetest kids that could be kidnapped, hurt, run over, anything because their parents can't even sit outside to watch them.

the older kids around here are not worth a hill of beans any more than their parents are....

i live with my sister's family right now to help take care of her and the family but it's a trailer. i have been offended when people assume that i'm trailer trash because i live there....but if you knew these parents and their kids....you'd understand it. the kids don't care...they run away....skip school, steal, you named it. and the parents only say....oh well what can i do???

HOW ABOUT BE A PARENT

Maybe they were never given the skills and knowledge to do so. Uncle Sam pays many mothers to have children. Food stamps, tax credits, earned income credit, to name a few.

you are right but it's not the schools, police or governments job....they are pushed into it because parents won't do their jobs (remember i said before that its's not all parents)

most of it is common sense though.....common sense would tell me that an 8 yr old can't be responsible to watch other younger kids playing in the street.

common sense says....i my kid is messing up and what i have done before isn't working....do something else.

talk to other parents....something.

alot of parents these days know how to....but they don't want to
