Earlier today I was reading and came across a quote that got me thinking "Women need men like a fish needs a bicycle" Now don't ask me who the quote is from as I suffer from most times I remember sometimes I don't. So tell me as we are all here on a friends/dating site Do you want or do you need to have someone in your life and do you believe there is a difference in which terminology is applied to your own situation?

I don't need a woman, I would like a friend/companion and preferrably one I could can sex with, but each one of these catagories could be filled separately. Maid, cook, one night stand, etc.

I would have to agree with that quote.

Nothing personal, I ADORE men, I just don't need one around.

But I want one around, for 'those times' yanno?

And there is a huge difference between NEED and WANT.

NEEDS- I think of physiological requirements for good health and sound mind. Fresh air, food, water, shelter, beneficial social interactions with other people.

Wants-I could live and be fine without them being fulfilled.

As for a woman, my child fathering days are finished. So I really don't 'need' a woman.
But I still want them laugh

It is not that we need, it is that we want to have someone to be close with. It is a natural thing.flowerforyou

In terms of the topic: I want a woman to share life with; need one in order to start my family. Short 'n sweet. Although I do not need one in order to live a productive life.

I hope you are polling the answers, it appears that the trend is men would like companionship and women want sex.

Men give love to get sex, Women give sex to get love.
Or is it the other way around???

For myself when I think about the difference between want and need I tend to agree with Kelly need are the things that the body and mind absolutely can not do without. But I know many people that don't feel complete without someone in their lives, so that would put a relationship in the need category not the I want to share my life with someone category. I feel complete as I am, and am happy with the person I am but I also feel I have much to offer as a companion, lover, friend so I want someone to share those qualities with. But it isn't necessary for me to feel whole.flowerforyou

My husband left and said I didn't need him. He never understood the difference either. I want to share myself with someone and have them want me the same way.

I can't say I need a man would love to have one to share those special moments with and to have around to enjoy things with. But that is a luxury to me not a need. bigsmile

Another person should be in your life to enhance it not to complete it!!

Hence the term "Needy" as far as relationships, not a total malfunction, but it stems from not having that feeling of being OK with yourself, and so is almost driven to be in a relationship to validate themselves.

Yes I have been so in the past. Working on not doing it again.

Interesting question. Don't need someone to make me feel complete. Would like to have some one to share life with...its ups and downs with. Someone who would give me an open, honest, and caring perspective.

I can WANT in one hand & NEED in the other...& we'll see which one gets full first...

I think that quote could work both ways.
We want a partner for companionship and sexual needs, but some of us really do not need that as a constant. It all depends upon the self-sufficiency of the individual. Some of us need a significant other more than others.
