Topic: The Call of a Child | |

Knock on the door
Words exchanged I only catch, “new neighbor” And hungry munchkin. Brain takes a vacation As I think of the courage Needed to approach a stranger To stop your child’s hunger pangs. I can hear him fussing As she tries to calm him in the doorway. Brain come back, work! Which child do I hear the loudest? Peanut Butter on a spoon To tide ‘im over During the time it takes To build a proper PB-n-J sammich-n-pull a juice pouch from the fridge. The thought of an Elder dying Prompts my thoughts to flow Out of my fingers So a heart facing this loss can read and know. The next day, Cool air wafts over my hand And a quiet, “thank you” Is heard in my brain. Her age in earth years is over 80. Though she’s been here on this plane a while - Me, I still hear, The "call of a child". |

This makes a person stop to think of thr plights of many who often times we fail to reach out to for various reasons. One act of kindness sometimes can make all the differfence.
